If A Region Had Oil

Post by Caesar »

Would they have to share it with others :? LETS SAY

your province recently found out they have the 5th largest oil deposit or whatever in the world

then your local gov asks for tax and everything, would you have to give it, and lets say you were a break away state would you have to share with the government?

I think resource wars will be the next thing in Somalia.

if my region had oil why would I have to feed people from thousands of miles away that hate us

If Puntland is found to have oil, I say we share not a drop of it (except with Jubaland). This is Somalia; it is a dog eat dog country. You do not feed a dog who is your enemy, and who will bite your hand tommorow. Puntland should stay in the federal system and work with Mogadishu but send not a drop of oil there. I am a geopolitical realist.

Puntland has only water, but of course you will share the water (bottled) with Mogadishu and deliver it to them :D

Oil was discovered in Saudi arabia in 1922 but it wasn't until 1938 that oil was commercially pumped.
There is oil in Puntland and drilling is going on as we speak.
Why should we share when Mogadishu doesn't give us our share of International community assistance??

I would say each region should use its resources for its public institutions ( schools, hospitals, licensing offices, etc) and pay the federal tax only if the national government govt spends it accordingly and fairly.

Kurdistan federal state of Iraq just made it's first sale of oil guess what? The Central gov't in Bagdhdad is not happy with it and even threatened Turkey for having a hand in this.
The government in the Iraqi autonomous region of Kurdistan says it has made its first sale of crude oil despite strong opposition from Baghdad.

The oil was piped to the Turkish port of Ceyhan, the Kurdish authorities said in a statement.

Iraq's central government says it has filed legal action against Turkey and the pipeline operator.

It is locked in a bitter dispute with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) over who can sell the country's oil.

Analysts say the latest development could further strain relations between Baghdad and the KRG, as well as ties between Iraq and Turkey

Oil should only be shared under a Somaliweyne government. If we are still disunited like this then no. Chances are like TGS is suggesting, brotherly tribal states would share it.

You know how our forefathers fought over watering holes?

Slap yourselves.

Centuries later you can't be fighting the same fight. It would be so much more productive if our forefathers had come up with a timetable and shared basic resources. The same way, whatever resources are in Somalia belong to Somalia it doesn't have a qabiil's name on it. If any "region" were to try and hoard it for themselves that would breed more insecurity. Though you might feel people of your qabiil are closer to you, without proper legislation, when it comes to money in more cases than not, brother would turn against brother.

Wake up, we're not that many, there's more than enough for each Somali to benefit in real terms. Or we could just wipe each other out and have others take what used to belong to Somalia.

:childplease: Look at this dhaboyaco asswipe. I bet you'd be happy to share those resources with Ethiopia or Kenya. The resources in Somalia belong to the people and state of Somalia, not to shitty tribal fiefdoms. That resources shouldn't be extracted until Somalis have the capability and the technology to do it themselves. The future profits should be used to subsidize education and community infrastructure projects.

Lack of mature leadership and lack of educated people to actually do the job, oil is just a pipe dream, leave it for the xth generation to do it, we passed up the opportunity long ago.

Until there is a proper government not a circus house, all regions should focus on themselves. But because PL is so big we can accommodate with friendly s.

Oil is federal property, regional leaders and authorities alike might have a saying but it'll be just that; a saying!

There is no way in hell you could send oil revenue to Mog (not with those crooks in Villa Somalia).
Looks like it's every man for himself.

Who's 'you' and who's 'every man'

Last I knew, anything in your clan's traditional land would be heading straight to Hargeisa.
