Kurds have been a civilization for eons. Not a fair comparison....let somaliland exploit its hydrocarbons then we'll compare its to any eastern country

iraqi kurdistan is basically an independent country since 1992 although unlike somaliland it never declared independence yet. their stategy is to utilize full autonomy within iraq and has western friends. through this they are developing and fortifying their land until the right time they can declare secession as iraq implodes

Ethiopia GDP per capita = 470.22 USD (2012)
Eretrea GDP per capita= 504.30 USD (2012)

i think somaliland GDP per capita is higher than both the above two countries- ethiopians are very poor compare to somalilanders for that reason ethiopia can not have higher GDP per capita its absulutely imposible. here is the GDP per capita of our little brothers (djibouti) 1,463.59 USD (2011). because their average citizen gets or spends more than three times the salary of ethiopian citizen.

No offence but with that kind of mentality, it's no wonder we are so underdeveloped. I only chose kurdistan because it's roughly similar situation to somaliland - an unrecognised but peaceful part of a wartorn country. The kurds are literally the gypsies of the middle-east. They are not what we should be aiming for. If anything we have more resources since we're not land-locked between countries who want to exterminate us. Somaliland should be aiming for the top like Singapore or Hong Kong - both cities with much larger populations than us, they have no resources and yet have much more money flowing through them.

Lquidqueer,
How can you compare a clan state that has not the support of other 4 clans to multi ethnical economical powerbase kurdistan? Are you really that dumb?
You compare livestock to oil and strong economy of Kurdistan?
Perhaps mirqaan?

A good friend of mine is actually moving back to the Kurdish areas of Iran but will only stay 6 months of every year. He told me the opportunities are ridiculous. He's got land along a highway being built and is going to be building a rest stop off the highway exit.

AhluHutu I'm not taking your bait. You've already lowered the IQ of this thread. I have reported you.

Tbh it's still pretty piss poor. And they have a lot of antagonism from the turkish side. Somaliland's problem is one of governance. Everything boils down to piss poor management and a lack of ambition.

I don't know if the SL figure is very accurate but we have no reason to assume it's not. SL's per capita gdp would drastically increase if the useless government had tight monetary control. Nobody should be using the dollar for anything. And 300% tax rate on qat would help as a deterent as well as put some cash in the treasury.
