IGAD the sick organization

As soon as many lands were liberated, the somali govt as it gains more diplomatic wight is planning to get rid of this organization who deals with the countries that have civil war and political problems though originally was only for the regional developments and cooperations

Much of this depends on the expected US embassy and the gulf countries


Diplomatically, the regional organizations are very important like how ethiopia is winning the nile valley againist egypt

However, IGAD is a sick organization, it represents only the ethiopian and kenyan interests

Since its HQ are located in djibouti, it has the third role in it though some years ago it had the second role after ethiopia. Having the HQ in her capital, means having a lot of political wight when it comes to somalia and indeed djibouti has played big reconciliation and talks roles in somalia the last one being the reconciliation with the resistance

When it comes to eritrea, djibouti along side with ethiopia is rejecting the return of asmara to this organization

ethiopia and kenya are friends in IGAD but the only thing they have in common is making the somali govt weaker however they have two different plans for somalia, one is more economically motivated and interests in a particular region and the other is more politically motivated and interests on the whole somalia. Kenyan role makes abit ethiopia worry so instead she likes to do the somali arrangements by itself.

When the somali officials would meet the kenyan officials, they would talk about this deal bla bla totally different of what the ethiopians are concentrating on like the somalias relations with egypt etc.

Politically and diplomatically the west is againist IGAD intervention but the govt needs to change the reality on the ground and gain a lot of continental influentials in the place of IGAD.

IGAD serves Ethiopias interest in the region and to some later extend Kenya , Ethiopia and Uganda differ on the south sudan conflict But Ethiopia and Uganda had very warm relations prior to the south sudan conflict , The Ugandese train the South Sudan troops and the Ugandans own most of the real estate business in south sudan. Eritrea was kicked out from IGAD by Meles zenawi , Djibouti and Ethiopia and Kenya have good relations and Eritrea Uganda and Sudan have some good relations. Somalia these days have no real stance but because Somalia has no clear policy Somalia is friends with Ethiopia and Kenya but its very suspicious of Kenya and its foot in Kenya and Uganda and Somalia are also very good in terms of diplomacy and Sudan to. IGAD was the creation of the great Ethiopian King Haile sallasi.

I agree with you that IGAD is an ethiopian organization however djibouti had played some IGAD role before like the somali reconciliations and mostly carta despite ethiopia being against this

The last one was the TFG reconciliations with the resistance, it was purely djibouti arrangements and wasn't allowed ethiopia to involve in it

The decision come from the US and djibouti was implementing it

Gaddafis african union was the AUs biggest rival, example he recognized abdi qasim wich has forced ethiopia to deal with him though her aim was to infiltrate him and after abdi qasims visit to addis they asked him first to remove ali khalif for having complained to the west against ethiopias intervention in gedo, to include his government her warlords like qaynare, ina aideed etc

Finally kenya has contacted with him and while tying to make reconciliation between him and his last opposation(ina yey), ethiopia has sent a delegation to nairobi and they convinced their warlords and her pm to change the reconciliation into election!

They accepted and that was the end of the TNG!

What can tell you this is that djibouti and addis have different policies.

Uganda is with ethiopia in the nile issue but it has good relations with egypt maybe bc they both are against sudan

Not bc of ethiopia but are in favour of changing the old accord so she can get her fair share too

Sudan and uganda have no diplomatic relations and are the worest rivals in IGAD

Ethiopia and sudan are very close friends bc of egypt, ethiopia knows if the islamic regime goes it means a weak sudan dependent govt will likely to replace him that will be controlled by egypt as usual

There are contacts now between sudan and eritrea to help rayak machaar, or sudan is carrying his messages to eritrea

Eritrea was againist all but bc of not having an economical window they corrected their relations with sudan

Ethiopia is againist the ugandan intervention in south sudan, thus, are closer to khartoum in the IGAD position.

Uganda and egypt are strongly backing jubba.
