Adal Dynasty (Walashma?)
What happened to them? Were they killed off by the Imam or by the xabash?

Re: Adal Dynasty (Walashma?)
Two things that weakened they were the strongest house of Ifat in the 10th century up to the 15 century when they transformed into the Adal Empire and annexed more regions of Ifat. They were battling the Abyssinian Amda Seyon I the Christians Emperor who drove some of their emirs into the sea This servery weakened them, but they got back some of their wealth and strength back in the late 14 century when Haqq ad-Din II drove the Abyssinians all the way to the south. Another issue that weakened was the Oromo expansion in the North and the last battle between Adal and Abyssinia .

^^^^I know that. But what I'm asking is did the individuals die out or do they still have descendants?

Many moved to Djibouti , djibouti still have some wave of walashma others moved to Harar others are in Borama carabta Borama After the defeat of Adal many assimilated joined the emerging powerful clans. But keep in mind the Walashma communities were not more than 10.000 people mostly living in and around seylac

Were they somalis, afars or arabs? Also how do you know they're still alive? There are many people that falsely claim lineages.

Define Somali according to some historians they spoke both Arabic and Somali , even the Somali they spoke is not something like what we speak today its 100% sure that the Borama Arabs are descendant of the early Zeilaawis

A somali is someone who speaks somali and patrilineally descends from either Dir, Isaaq, Darood or Hawiye. Tumaal, Madhibaan, D&M etc are also somali but descend from Sab.

There were ancient Somali tribes who lived around the coast who do not belong to the modern Clans u named above , Most of the clans above named existence is roughly 1000 years. But there were many Somalis who predate and spoke Somali not as we know it today there were many Clans lost during the battles some were annexed by the Amhara Ifat conquerors.
