Somaliland artitecture we are learning but we're overdoing

Post by Khalid Ali »

We are learning how to construct similar buildings like this But we over do it and add to much glass

Image

We want to move to this

But also the shape and the and the way the building is finalized is just awful sometimes the design on paper and even on 3d looks good but when it actually is finalized it looks terrible

There is a Building in down town Hargeysa almost Finalized constructed by Ibrahim dhere an SL merchant the building is massive but i am afraid they will be over doing it again, if they get the rustication right and the color

We need professional architects who study architecture, when only have civil engineers trying to design buildings which is dumb. That is completely different

The kind of building in Somaliland are really atrocious, people have to take into account the landscape, terrain and culture when designing buildings, so that they can fit in, looking more appealing and aesthetic. I dont think Hargeisa can be redeemed now, it maybe too late

The building design needs to take into account the landscape and design houses or buildings according to how best it will come out or appear in that particular landscape. Architects can even take a step further and make the building also reflect the culture and history of the place in its design. That would be better than trying to mimic western giant monstrous glass buildings, which contrast in an ugly way with surrounding environment.

burco quraarad waxba kuma dhisato kkkkkkk, fooqyada burco waa wada sabad, markaanu shiidka ka ilbaxnaanu bilaaybaa dhismaha guryo quraarada, if you watch the first 15 seconds we have done all those buildings in the last 5 years. borama is also challenging us. 10 years from now our cities (hargeisa, burao, borama) will look amazing.

Its better to have smaller, neat and more organized city than a large confused urban jungle.

It's a process. You can't expect a poor 3rd world nation to get it right the first time. In other poor nations, they hire foreigners to design and construct their buildings, whereas in Somaliland, we do it ourselves.

But yeah we definitely need someone who's certified in architecture to come and teach our people who design things

sometimes its good to be critical to our companies back home for not building start of the art buildings, they are capable of building good enough looking buildings if our people have the money. most people have fixed budget so what the fok they cant expect 5 star aqal for example for 70ks. miyey waalan yihiin. for example i remember when ambasador hotel was build in 2004, the whole project was less than 700k, where on earth can one build a hotel like that for under 700k.

They can build some impressive homes but when it comes to commercial buildings they need serious revolutionary Tahrir Square style.

Hargeisa is a city with tranquility, population and money, so people are experimenting. I agree there is urgent need for qualified artechitures and town planing.

Example of homes...thanks to Hargeisa's limestones

Khalid by the way, Ibrahim Abdi Kahin (Ibrahim Dhere) is not a merchant. The right term is tycoon. He supplies food goods to more than 25 countries in Africa via Djibouti Port. He is said to be a billionaire. All our tycoons are moving their money from Djibouti and where they have name, pride, history and blood.

Ibrahim Dheere, reer Osman Guelleh (Coke plant owners), Mohamed Said Guedi (SomCable), Aideed Jama (Hargeisa theatre and soon to import electricity from Ethiopia), Omaar Company (one of the richest Somali man but very low key, Abdi Awad Ali (Indhadeero) used to be an intern for Omaar - http://ominco.com/) just to name few...

I am very pleased to see Ibrahim Dheere make a presence. He always contributed thru charity and donations but its good to see him have a physical base. Ibrahim Dheere is the Sacad Muse wealth King along with Omaar Company owner (he is currently living quiet life in Gabiley but his sons run the business which has steel, timber, shipping, food and industrial side...he supplies Ethiopia the construction materials including steel).

Our city, every year its expanding at an amazing pace. Very soon it will be amongst the biggest cities in Africa not just the Horn.
