Jobs in Somali lands

Post by EvolSyawla »

I've been getting many of requests for insider info on positions that open up in Hargeisa. I am more than happy to do that, but I also know that I don't really know of places that are hiring at this point in time.

Please take the initiative and look around as well.

Be advised many UN positions require either extensive field experience OR a masters (Bachelors are just a dime a dozen today), bi/multi-lingual status being an obivious asset.

Here is one site where you may find some luck, for those who are interested

This particular position is looking for someone to work in Bosaso,

Allah helps those who help themselves, so InshAllah khayre to everyone looking. :)

Xamar, Hargeysa, and Djibouti are hard to find as far as job postings, but offers a lot if you went their. Puntland has a lot of job postings in numerous sites, I think it's great to rack up on experience, one in which is adequate to your choice of career. Although, Bossaso is hell on earth for four to five months out of the year, I would be inclined to accept its offers had it not have such extreme climatic conditions.

Everywhere is better when you apply in person. People want to hire a face, especially in this part of the world, not just a name written on an emailed resume. So any effort in that regard is beneficial for you. It's mostly word of mouth, I know. But people need to make an effort, and if they're serious they'll get where they need to go.

lol @ hell on earth. I couldn't handle Djibouti or Berbera, don't want to consider anywhere else.

Their starting salary at Hargeisa town is $1100...then they tell you that 4 years later you will have substantial rise in salary..but for some people they don't have that patience

It may depend on where you're working. Working at a non profit would obviously have a slower pay increase, whereas working with a private company bears the possibility of a more financially fruitful future.

I've also noticed that Puntland has many many more postings than other areas of Somalia such as waqooyi galbeed/koonfur. Maybe more competition in these 2 areas more.
