Snet Grads... come in.

Post by Octavius »

If you could go to university/college again...What would you different? Would you go to the same university/college? How did your uni/college choice impact or propell your career?

I just found myself reflecting on my uni choice, im wondering if a masters is worth doing :notsure:

I would a) become more involved, whether it be volunteering or joining school group. Great way to make connections and b) talk to proffs more often.

@ Octavius: Nowadays everyone has a masters. It's not a matter "should I do it?" but "what else would look impressive but this alone isn't enough". What's your degree choice if you don't mind me asking?
My degree & masters choice for my current career was good as it makes me valuable within the field alxamdulillah, though I didn't know it would be, as it was Allah's plan. University experience: I could have done more, we all could have, but alxamdulillah, what I have is sufficient.

Cheers all

Y.M yeah your right, these days a masters will just get you a foot in the door. But on the other hand, having an enormous list of qualifications only goes so far; at a certain point you will to face deminishing returns and you will be deemed 'overqualified', an 'overachiever', 'too academic' or comparatively lacking in practical work experience/skills.

that's why part-time work, voluntary work, and various random ku-meel-gaadh projects shouldn't be belittled. My current career is completely unexpected, and what really supported me in that is 6+ years of part-time experience similar to my role.
