Somaliland close to signing port deal with France's Bollore
A delegation from Bollore led by Dominique Lafont, the CEO of Bollore Africa Logistics, is currently in Hargeisa for talks with the government over the Port of Berbera. Bollore plans to invest up to $600mn at the port and is very close to signing the deal with Somaliland and Ethiopia.
The recent talks between Somaliland and Ethiopia in Dire Dawa was equally important step because if Ethiopia inks the proposed 30% port needs, said to be 4 million MT, then Bollore will find such deal too hard to resist. It is guarantee business flow for good. They already met with the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Ato Hailemariam Desalegn.
The Somaliland government and Bollore will now discuss terms, conditions and percentages before Bollore flies to Addis Ababa. If all goes well, Bollore, Somaliland and the Ethiopian government including PM will meet in Addis Ababa to sign in officially.
The contract between Somaliland, Ethiopia and Bollore is being managed by the British McCue & Partners Law Firm. They will manage all the legal documents and help break an accord between all three.
Somaliland will also sign other deals with Ethiopia including security arrangements.

Octavius,
There is no clear details yet but the main areas that SL and Ethiopia will sign major deals are; trade (Berbera port the biggest, electricity/power), education (more scholarships for SL students and more Ethiopian unis to open campuses in Hargeisa), defense (intelligence, SL to train its special forces in Ethio, defense college scholarships, etc), Telecom (submarine cable to enter Ethiopia by SL and SomCable plans to play crucial role) and other deals.
So far the talks are getting serious and within this year its likely that we will see the whole SL government in Addis Ababa to sign more than 10 major deals.
The British Law Firm will handle the contract between SL, Ethiopia and Bollore.
There suppose to be Chinese team as well but not sure where they disappeared to.

Ive been hearing about bollore since 2008 whats the deal?
Is it because the incompetent fools in our government have not done their homework.
I was shocked to find out that the reason for the Genel oil exploration delays was due to lack of paperwork done by the ministry of minerals and oil.
Nothing was done zero, no draft law, nothing.

Why should we leave our most valuable assets at the hands of foreign companies? Sure they'll invest 750 million, but that's actually not a lot of money and even if it was they'll be sure to be get the lions-share of the profits and control and that is unacceptable.

They will get a lions share but the profits we will earn will also be hundreds of Millions if they manage half of Ethiopia imports and exports, in an ideal world i would love Somalilanders to invest and enlarge their ports but they neither have the resources nor the energy nor man power to get the mission done , The french money can be very useful Dont look at what the French will earn look at what we will earn in contrast to what we earn now? If we lease the port for 2 decades and earn a good buck we inherit a modernized port eventually and made money along the way. today we neither have the investment nor the port revenues.
