The former pm omar abdi rashid who was one of the anti-govts political figures is now the first somali ambassador to the US in decades

This is part of the new political developments in puntand region where the ambassador hails from since abdi wali gaas come to power

Looks like that somalia has now better chances as there's cooperation between most of the regions and the somali govt

President Obama accepted the credentials for new Somali Ambassador to the United States, Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, in a ceremony at the White House today.

Sharmake, a former prime minister of the African country, is the first Somali ambassador to the U.S. in more than two decades. Somalia closed its U.S. embassy after warlords ousted former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.

Minnesota has the largest Somali population in the United States.

"This is a historic moment for the future of a democratic Somalia and for the future of relations between our two countries,” U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison said in a statement. “Mr. Sharmarke is well prepared to continue building a free, peaceful Somalia.

"I look forward to working with His Excellency and I would like him to visit Minneapolis as soon as possible. Together, we can promote security, economic prosperity, and well-being for Somalis both here in the U.S. and in Somalia."

I don't want to say too much, because some things are not meant to be discussed publicly online but what I can say is that his new position as the Somali ambassador to the US is very very bad news for the Dam Jadid clique in Mogadishu. And very very good news for Puntland and Jubaland. The former is where he hails from and the latter he helped build.

Omar hustled HIM into giving this position. Ali Mohamed Gedi helped him too. Omar has also been a good friend of Galmudug because he pushed for its recognition.
