Military service, yay or nay?

Aight one of my Algerian friends been telling me he's been hooked up with false documents that allows him to state he has already done service time and doesn't need to go to the camps..it got me wondering, i asked him why and he just doesn't identify with Algeria tbh, he doesn't like the country, the culture plus he doesn't want to lose years when he could be using his time to pursue his career path etc....so, in a theoretically stable and functioning Somalia, if military service was a requirement (i think my Dad did it back in the day so it may have existed) for like 2 years, say 17-19, would you try, at all costs to avoid it or would you partake willingly?

Part of me would want to do it. It would be a good bout of discipline, strong conformity, life lessons, experience in a new field etc maybe i'd even enjoy being part of a military...again we are assuming here a functioning and well established nation free of tribalism, political woes etc so it wouldn't effect your political/religious views...

My uncles in Somalia used to talk fondly of their military service, they had some fun times , building up character etc
they were pro Somalia and Pro Somali weyne, many fought in the galbeed war as well.

I think military service is a good thing, but maybe we should switch it up, like those who don't plan to work in the government have 2 months mandatory military service? Something like that, or increase volunteering and building projects in towns etc. as a requirement to graduate High school.
