Secret Pacts
The Sykes–Picot Agreement, officially known as the Asia Minor Agreement, was a secret agreement between the governments of the United Kingdom, France, and Russia defining their proposed spheres of influence and control in the Middle East should they succeed in defeating the Ottoman Empire during World War I. The agreement was concluded on 16 May 1916. The Russian Tsarist government was a minor party to the Sykes–Picot agreement, and when, following the Russian Revolution of October 1917, the Bolsheviks exposed the agreement, "the British were embarrassed, the Arabs dismayed and the Turks delighted.

Re: Secret Pacts
Interesting historical document. I wonder what's called the secret pact that divided Somalia among Britain, France, Italy, Kenya & Ethiopia.

Re: Secret Pacts
The bolsheviks exposure of sykes-picot also brings to light another myth that has been peddled by those who "write history".
That the arabs rebelled as a people against the Ottomans during World War 1.
Total bullshit, a small minorty in hejaz backed by british arms and the saud clan which were rebels even before ww1 does not represnt the arab people.
The arabs in the armies and the in all the major cities were loyal to the very end and there are arab officers and soldiers that followed the Turks back into Turkey so they could fight in the Turkish war of Independence against the Greeks, French, Italians and the British.

Re: Secret Pacts
No one was happy with the state of the empire at the time, neither Arabs nor Turks. Some Arabs revolted [the Hejaz revolt], Young Turks revolted [the 1908 revolt and then few years later they were able to kick out their sultan out of the country] whereas others called for a greater Arab autonomous powers while being under the umbrella of the empire, at least those in the Sham. But Arab nationalism was brewing and Western Powers were knocking at their doors promising heaven and earth.
