They told them to pay Jizya which is a lawful tax. We forcefully pay taxes to our governments who use the funds to send drones, i don't see anyone complaining about that.

I won't fall for media hype. Those Christians could have been informants, they could be conspiring against Muslims and all sorts. Under the Rashidun Islam had the upper hand and it is easier to be merciful to your adversaries when that is the case. When Islam established in Medina, the non Muslims were protected, but at times of War many of them conspired and went behind our backs.
