I admire Sh. Hamza Yusuf and often listen to his lectures, my "Salafi" friends disapprove of my admiration for him but I just smile and nodd.

Trust me a lot of them are on auto-pilot when it comes to thinking they believe it's forbidden perhaps that's why they frown upon upon Sh. Hamza, he gets those wheels turning.

A very dangerous way of approaching religious education is coming unto a scholar that has a unnecessary bias against another scholar, who then reflects that bias on the new student, who overwhelmingly accept the scholar's opinion as if it's the truth. This is why no matter what you say to them about the scholar (in this case Sh Hamza) they will reject it and would stay attached to what they were taught.
