Are you a consumer?

I realized I am not the conventional consumer, I owe 3 pair of shoes, one for football, the other for trekking and mud, the last for casual walking, I also realized a deficiency in the quantity of shirts that I own, and I only have a pair of jeans, a pair of jogging sweat pants and a macwis for pj's that I had for 3 years now. Yet I still have money, I guess consumerism just isn't for me

Wow! That is admirable runti. I am definitely a consumer (not proud of it). I would love to get to a point where I didn't need things but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

mashallah you left the rat race while still quite young.
consumerism is for fools.
after my last financial crisis, i cut down on everything even sold my sports car for a normal car,
now i have allot more money than i had before my financial crash yet i still dont have the need to buy anything.

To be honest, I lost count on how many pair of shoes I've. I know there are 2 big boxes of shoes that I don't even wear sitting in my mom's garage, and also they took over my closet, and home storage. I'm ashamed lord knows I'm ashamed. I might sell them online. And let's not even start with the clothes, I think I'm a compulsive shopper. My mom always reminds me what I am doing is israaf. God help me.

^ At least you are taking notice of it now, that's a positive step. Consumerism is bad for society, it also destroys the earth, the massive dumps of scrap all over the place that are detrimental to the ecosphere, and the waste that is thrown into the ocean. This isn't just clothes, it's food, for instance how they use these massive nets to conduct over-fishing, the tuna-fish might be extinct in a few decades just because some industries want to make money, that's the reason behind all of it, the acquisition of wealth.

I'm not a big fan of hyperconsumerism, although to each his own. To be perfectly honest I'm a minimalist. If I feel as though I have excess I donate it to the salvation army.

I think I go through phases quite a lot...
As a kid in school everyone obsessed over the latest fashion like one week its timberlands the next its airmaxes etc I hated the constant trend hopping I'd just ask hooyo to buy something nice and brandish and stick with it for a while .
There was a time I only wore a qamiis no matter where I went but alas that innocence didn't last long

I was never into hand bags, shoes, makeup etc. For example, shoes I use now? 1 pair for mowing the lawn, 1 pair for work, 1 pair for everyday/regular use,1 pair of winter boots.I have other shoes but chances are they are damaged or something is wrong with them and they are stored mostly in the garage& closet. 1 large hand bag in use & 1 smaller hand bag, and the other bags are damaged(i.e.torn). I really need get rid of stuff . I usually avoid shopping at the mall for clothes because they don’t usually have what I want. I am in the habit now of just orderings online for clothes in bulks.I did go through a hair junkie product phase around year 2010-2012.
The number one thing I regret wasting my money on probably classes and programs I had never really had use for. I enrolled myself in 5 different post secondary schools in the past decade, different programs, and ended up paying off the student loans debt the whole time. I don’t have student loan debt anymore but I wish I planned that situation better. You live and learn.
