are some of our tradition stupid principles/ideology?
which part of our tradition would you eliminate?
appears to me that ppl follow some tradition because it’s expedient in thier lifes instead of it makin sense, then it can become a hassle
breakin tradition is soo unmentionable among the the majority of somalis as if was hand in hand with religious beliefs every single time
with the last generation creatin the most change in our ephemeral history, tradition is easily outdated, sax?
why do ppl stick with some of the incorrect ones? to please others, its easier to follow the trend, don't want to be known as a rebel? i honestly can't think of an answer other than 'FEAR'
don't get me wrong there's utterly nothin wrong with for the most part of our tradition, its amazin so long as you are open to the fact that things change and we learn more every day
now, when ppl stick to some of the horrific traditions for instance 'QABIIL' which is immense aspect of our tradition and utterly repudiate to allow forward progress so as to preserve their idea of tradition, then it becomes a crisis for all of us soomahan?
wouldn't you think the prevalent element of somalia/somalis crisis is our tradition?

as a people i'd say we're naturally conservative.
not neccesseraly a bad thing, but on the other hand, it was a well established 'tradition' to bury female babies in pre islamic saudi arabia i believe.
i guess what im tryna say is that the prophet(pbuh) braught about a religious movement that can be likened to a revolution, to enlighten the backward arabs.
so maybe some of our cultural practices are outdated. the solution, do something about it. i would, but im kinda not bothered.. life gets in the way.. u understand right.

qabiil can be a good thing if people use it the right way. Somalis need Islam in their lives. FGM isnt necassary a bad if they practice it in responsible way. I agree with the screw old men marrying teen girls has to be stopped ASAP. qaat should be outlawed and looked at the same way we look at liqour.
