Officer shoots own daughter, 16, in mistaken intruder identity after teen 'sneaks back home'

Deputy Sheriff Easton McDonald then crashed into a barricade en route to the hospital

A police officer shot his 16-year-old daughter mistakenly believing her to be an intruder, then crashed his car on the way to the hospital, after the teenager crawled back home following a night out.

Sergeant Easton McDonald, who works for the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia, was at home getting ready for work at roughly 3.30am on Tuesday when he heard the garage alarm sounding.

As he approached the interior of the garage he heard bangs and sounds coming from within, so grabbed a gun.

He opened the door and saw the dark figure of a person walking towards him and fired his weapon at her torso.

"The homeowner determined that he had just shot his 16-year-old daughter who was attempting the sneak back into the residence after sneaking out earlier that morning without the parent’s knowledge,” a statement from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 73392.html
:snoop: then he drove her to hospital and crashed his car on the way. People need to learn that it's not how quickly you get to hospital which saves a life but how quickly the ambulance gets to you..

I am kinda surprised at the person that thinks someone might have broken into his garage, grabs a gun, and shoots blindly at whoever is in there. Although I believe the standard line of apologism will be that we cannot judge his immediate reaction to hearing someone in his garage being to use lethal force because we do not know how dangerous his neighbourhood is, for all we know, someone might have tried to steal his lawnmower in the past. And that some teenage girls appear life-threateningly terrifying in silhouette, especially to an armed and full grown man with formal firearms training( even underr stress) smh

Laws on self defense vary widely in the US, but what law says that somebody simply intruding into your house (or even that you assume has intruded into your house) warrants deadly force?

In the wonderful land of rednecks, if you so much as feel threatened in your home, you are free to shoot 'in self defence'. Remember that stand your ground fiasco?

I don't know how many accidental incidents these bastards need to be able to see that these rules are entirely counter productive and DANGEROUS, but oh well. Let them keep killing each other. Glad as hell I don't live there.

Poor girl though, sucks.

@LoveAlaways, yeah Florida comes to mind for the SYG..I was reading somewhere that, for the six years it was in act, only 1.25% of homicides were ruled justified under SYG. Still the law is most often portrayed as a bulletproof license to kill. Mind you, you don't need to invoke SYG to claim self-defense, Zimmerman didn't use SYG and he was acquitted, smh

yummymummy, Interesting thought

Zimmerman killed a black person. He was acquitted before it happened.
