HARGEISA-The president of the republic H.E. Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud (Silanyo) has requested the two opposition parties (Wadani) and (UCID) to forward the names of their candidates of commissioners to represent them in the National Election Commission (NEC).

The current commissioners term of office has expired .A well placed source speaking on condition of anonymity revealed to the Horn Newspaper that the president on Wednesday sent formal letters to both the National Party (Wadani) and the Party of Justice and Development (UCID) to come up with names of their new commissioners as the seven former commissioners been reprieved of their duties immediate effect. The president also asked the House of Elders Senate or (GUURTI) to select their appointees of commissioners. According to veteran politicians close to the inner circles of the government disclosed that a delegation from donor countries that fund the democratization process have exerted pressure on the president to either renew the contract of serving commissioners whose term of office is due to expire on 25th October 2014 or appoint new commissioners altogether.

The donor delegation also met the opposition and discussed with them the importance of speeding up the voters’ registration and insurance of identity cards which the opposition had voiced their concern on the agenda of the government which they blamed of laxity in the election process preparations. As went to press the opposition parties were in full gear drafting names of personalities to represent them in the National Election Commission (NEC).

i support the opposition suggestion of adding 2 more members. its not fair if the the president appoints 3 while ucid and wadani get only two + the 2 guurti appointed members. the semi dictator rayaale's foot steps should not be followed.
