Human Farms

Post by Sophisticate »

I like animals as much as the next guy. I don't own leather and I'm conscious of the personal health products I buy.

When I heard scientists plan on phasing out animal testing in favour of artificial humans I gave them the 21-gun salute. :dj:

Biotech firms are merely awaiting approval to harvest livers, kidneys and hearts.

What comes to mind...

Isn't human cloning illegal in most western countries?

It's not cloning in the conventional sense. It's tissue engineering.

You derive cells from an individual and they grow around a scaffold, the organ is then implanted into the individual. :stylin:

It's wild. :whew:

I say go for it, as long as they don't clone humans.

Cloning human body part's is STILL cloning, and Haram and Danbi.

That's why that stem cell thingy was a huge issue back in 2003.

Explain to me how its haram? You are using your existing cells. It doesn't seem unethical in the slightest, compare that to animal testing.

I don't see how it is haram to produce my own spare body parts from my own cells. The lowdown to this new technology (if it ever becomes feasible) will be the health disparities between the wealthy countries and the poorer countries would grow wider, where due to chronic poverty, child mortality rates will increase in the former and people will live longer in the rich nations and die of old age and through accidents.

Machiavelli2 you raise an interesting point about health inequities that could occur from the advent of this technology. In terms of utility that could be derived from it you are right it would disproportionately benefit the haves, that normally tends to occur. I suppose we will cross that bridge when we get there. I'm particularly interested in how long a neo-liver or heart could last.

jalaaludin5 no need to feel flustered by an avatar of a dapper East African. I will place your photo there if it makes you feel more secure. :MJ:

Soph. YUMMY.

It actually reminds me of The Island. They were all clones who were bred with the purpose of being organ donors, and they eventually find out that they are just clones who are raised until they are needed.

LoveAlways it was a classic dystopian flick. Brilliant.

It reminded me of a sci-fi Mayan blood sacrifice but instead of offering organs to a volcano deity it's a clone to original transfer.

Thankfully no humans will be harmed in this operation. I hope. :whew:

What other concerns do you have regarding (artificial organs)?

Are you all in or on the fence?
