Hawdian & Isir Raaca Af-Amaringya

Post by Hawdian »

Subxanaka ya cadiim (Amharic version coming soon) but enjoy these collection from my favorite Amharic songs. It will be updated on weekly bases. If Amharic or any regional music is not your taste, avoid this topic kindly. Thanks.

Subxanaka ya cadiim, I will start with Jacky Gosee, who is one of my favorite Amharic singers. He is the contemporary version of Teddy Afro. Teddy is in his own league almost as big as Atse Menelik himself. No doubt. That guy is legend. I appreciate his talent and contribution to the African arts and literature in general.

Amhara in general are gifted when it comes to poetry, music and production. Their craftsmanship and workmanship is of the highest caliper in my humble opinion.

Sela Bey is a great hit that infuses modern sounds of the West and various Amhara schools including Wollo, Gonder, Gojjam and Shewa. If you wish to know the differences, feel free to read my anthropological work on the Amhara music and culture: http://mereja.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=85508&p=519322

That work has been saluted by the Ethiopian people (my work will become reference for many Amhara themselves):

wedi-hizbi wrote:damn hawdian smart man; you mastered the abbysininan cultural differences in a short time, Your knowledge is more than the amharas themselves. one correction though, the teddy afro song about minilik is acutally is not from shewa, its done by a gonder eskista beat(fast drum eskista). shewas have their own minjar dance and tune mostly performed while doing a farm work.
this my favorite minjar(shewa) song. look how the men wear a big hat, and the women tuck their dress to their mekenet at their waist.

Do you know Hawdian that the eskista Dance is a berberawi dance do you know the Berbers in Northern Africa still dance it. i went to a concert of his when he came to the UK'' Mr teddy.

Khalid,

In the topic on ER, I explained the difference between the Amharic music in the four regions that they settle. I would say Gojjam is culturally rich and very resourceful in every department. Shoa is modern state built on taste for contemporary. Wollo is the ancestral land of the Amhara but Gojjam is the one that defines their culture in its purest form. Gonder is great region but often they don't explore outside Emperor Tewodros II, the Fasilides (great builders) and history.

When it comes to eskista, no one does it like the Gojjamis. By the way good read. I didn't know the Berbers had eskista.
Hawdian wrote:

Home to Lake Tana and Tis Abay, Gojjam in my eyes is the breadbasket of the Amhara region. Gojjam is like the Texas of Amhara Region; big, resourceful, rich and very hospitable. Apart from Shewa, which was once regarded as the most autonomous region, Gojjam always maintained its own rule within Abyssinia's long-list of Emperors.

Thus the Gojjam culture and music is often reflected in their ability to sustain itself and remain independent thinker. Gojjam is always about going back to the roots and maintaining the tradition.

For me Gojjam music is very mystical and beautiful creation that harmonious all traditional and contemporary instruments. In the other three region, usually there is a lead instrument but in Gojjam they are all in harmony thus telling the story in one consistent voice.

In terms of eskista does, no one does it like Gojjam. They can go any angel, side and shake their body like an electric-eel. They can jump and make all kinds of warrior expressions with their faces and bodies.

When it comes to throat sound, the Gojjames are naturally gifted. Unlike inhaling Wollo, they exhale and thus produce more natural sustainable sound.

The girls maintain short curly hair that is reflection of their hard-work and working the land in order to feed the nation. More than any other Amhara music, the Ras enjoys the Gojjamees the most

Gojjam is always reminding the other Amharas to keep their roots and calls them into action when needed the most.

Gojjamees are proud of their heritage, culture, freedom and blessed land, which houses Abay River, Abay Tis and Lake Tana. Thus often its referred to as the gate of Eden and the Felege Ghion (river Ghion). Spirituality is central identity within Gojjam society.

While the Gonderis produce "eeh, eeh, eeh" vocal pitch, the Gojjamees have their own unique "Koh, koh, koh" sound. Furthermore, in almost all Amhara celebration songs an ululation sound is used. However, unlike the Middle East, its made by males and its brief but high pitch sound designed to elevate excitement in the fiesta.

The Music of Gojjam (Because the Ras is just slightly biased, Gojjam gets two songs featured, sorry boys )

Hawdian we should investigate Wollo , Wollo has lost Isaaq clans my friend Who has been a member of this site has been there, and seen them.

Teeda kale my theory is that some Amhara have Berber connection to and other Sabbeans some where 4000 years ago, when the region was open to each other.

Here is a video of berber amazigh watch from 2:08 how the lady moves her shoulders

Hodan,

It's not Habesha music. I'm specific. I like Amharic music. Habesha is huge group including the Gurage, Tigrai, Tigres, Bilen, Irob etc. It's not about love, it's about learning your neighbor so you may know how to best deal with them in any situation. I can start any topic with them as I travel through their lands in search of goods  Better than East and West Burco politics.

Khalid,

Good find and you're correct there is huge historical connection between the people of Ethiopia and the Berbers. The Berbers used to populate our region but began going north probably in the 11th century. Their culture is not far off from that of Ethiopia including their traditional cookware and crafts.

Here is another example of Berber eskista (start from 0:40). The second version is off the hook. I appreciate African creation.

You're correct it's called The Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion and its believed to be the oldest church built in the 4th century in Axum. No idea if it has the ark. It's very well kept secret by the Church. Maybe just a rumor in order to raise its profile or maybe they fear of others stealing it.

Thats Ethiopian Mythology Menelik I son of King Solomon nabi Suleymani having sex with Balqiis Queen sheba of yemen and conceiving the First ISRAELITE Xabashi King Menelik and that he brought the Ark of the Covenant.

There is no Jewish scripture in the Tanakh that validates such a claim made by the Ethiopian orthodox Church i have asked Jewish Rabis when i was in Jerusalem. And they all told me King Solomon never had a son called Menelik so he could have never brought Ark of the Covenant.

Its not Noah Ark, but the Ark of the covenant. Ahmed Guray during the Jihad destroyed that Church old mary Zion in Tigray province , its where the Xabashi kings used to be Crowned. Never believe what you read Ethiopians most of the time they lie about History' or they twist it.

I don't understand the point behind all of this Ethiopian ass licking but thats disgusting man. Amxaaro of all ppl you chose to praise and revision them while coming in here and making them to be something they are not..

Ethiopians are the lowest of the low, and have been enslaved by somalis in many different eras and most of the western scholars say that the most fabricated history in the world is the abssiynian aka Solomonic kingdom tales. they were like a village city and had no power beyond the mountains and tigrei areas.

In the south you had Oromo, and to other tribes in the south west side of ethiopia while in somalia there was two empires far stronger then the solomonic kingdom and one of those kingdoms defeated the solomonic kingdom.

Amxaaro are nothing they are beneath somalis in every way. bloodline or heritage xataa! they don't wash there xaar xataa the fuck and you come in here talkin bla bla about them.

fuckin annoys me.
