"“The reason I came back is mainly adventure. Here, in Berbera, time isn’t going too fast, I can do a lot of things during the day, as well as sleep and relax, do whatever I want. In the US, there is no time, everything happens too fast, everyone is stressed out,” he replied. “Having a US passport is great for traveling, and I will visit the States for holidays, but I can only imagine myself living here, in Somaliland.”"

Yuzzirr. The only sense in this article.

"Bored shepherds used to hang out here and draw pictures on the walls." This is what I can't stand about some people. Don't travel if you're going to disrespect history and belittle something as precious as art from thousands of years ago.

Very condescending lol This is why I don't understand why people love whites/pakis/indians who come here. They're laughing and making their little bitchy comments about everything. Stay the fk out please! We are not a zoo to be visited.

While her whole article smacks of the typical condescending european in Africa, you can't argue that SL isn't a boring country with little in the way of attactions outside of lovely beaches. Others have the Eiffel tower and the Champs-Élysées, or the Great wall and the Forbidden City or the Pyramids, tombs and bazaars of Egypt - we have fck all.

Although you might ask why she didn't do a bit of research before going. A quick google would tell her SL is a backwater with very little to offer. I think she just wanted brag to her friends that she went to Somalia.

Not everyone's idea of attractions are the same. We don't need the Burj Khalifa lol, maybe in another lifetime, but I genuinely enjoy being here, with the landscapes and natrual beauty. Hargeisa is coming along, and in a few years time, there will be more to do. But in the meantime (and afterwards), they can gtfo.

Bazaars of Egypt? I think our bacadlaha are enough of an adventure

"The streets of Hargeisa smell of guavas, and are filled with goats and camels, along with modern coffee shops and restaurants. During the day, you hide in the shade, drinking fruit juice, munching on sandwiches, and answering the same question from every new acquaintance"

  This twat needs a smack in the kisser. Stupidrada.

I was talking to this girl working in the foreign office a couple of days ago, and she was going on about her travels around the world, but when referring to Somalia she kept saying she loves to work there because its dodgy and this apparently excited her, she even said that it is great to go to those kind of places whiles young and retire in a calm european country like Northern Europe.

These people lack soul, for them its just an adventure to tell their mates, of course they will be condescending, they don't even consider you human mate, personally I can't stand people who are in the world of politics.

Hey LoveA..Here's a pretty funny diary of a condescending cadaan who's just visited Botswana.
August 1

Just got transferred with work from London, UK to our new home in the Phakalane Golf Estate, Gaborone.
Now this is a town that knows how to live!
Beautiful, sunny days and warm, balmy evenings.
I watched the sunset from a deckchair by our pool yesterday.
It was beautiful.
I’ve finally found my new home.
I love it here.

September 1

Really heating up now.
It got to 31 today.
No problem though.
Living in air-conditioned home, driving air-conditioned car.
What a pleasure to see the sun every day like this.
I’m turning into a sun-worshipper – no blasted rain like back in London !!

September 15

Had the back yard landscaped with tropical plants today.
Lots of palms and rocks.
No more mowing lawns for me!
Another scorcher today, but I love it here.
It’s Paradise !

October 1

The temperature hasn’t been below 35 all week.
How do people get used to this kind of heat?
At least today it’s windy though.
Keeps the flies off a bit.
Acclimatizing is taking longer than we expected.

October 15

Fell asleep by the pool yesterday.
Got third degree burns over 60% of my body.
Missed three days off work.
What a dumb thing to do..
Got to respect the old sun in a climate like this!

October 20

Didn’t notice Kitty (our cat) sneaking into the car before I left for work this morning.
By the time I got back to the car after work, Kitty had died and swollen up
to the size of a shopping bag and stuck to the upholstery.
The car now smells like Whiskas and cat s**t.
I’ve learned my lesson though: no more pets in this heat.

October 25

This wind is a bastard.
It feels like a giant blow dryer.
And it’s hot as hell!
The home air conditioner is on the blink and the repair man charged P1000
just to drive over and tell me he needs to order parts from Joburg

October 30

The temperature’s up around 40 and the parts still haven’t arrived for the air conditioner.
House is an oven so we’ve all been sleeping outside by the pool for 3 nights now.
Bloody P5,000,000 house and we can’t even go inside.
Why the hell did I ever come here?

November 4

Finally got the air-conditioner fixed. It cost P10,000 and gets the temperature down to around 35 degrees.
Stupid repairman.
thief.

November 8

If one more smart bastard says ‘Hot enough for you today?’
I’m going to throttle him.
By the time I get to work, the car radiator is boiling over, my f-king clothes are soaking wet and I smell like baked cat.
This place is the end of the Earth.

November 9

Tried to run some errands after work, wore shorts, and sat on the black leather upholstery in my car.
I thought my arse was on fire.
I lost 2 layers of flesh, all the hair on the backs of my legs and off my arse.
Now the car smells like burnt hair, fried arse and baked cat.

November 10

The Weather report might as well be a recording..
Hot and sunny.
Hot and sunny, Hot and sunny.
It never changes!
It’s been too hot to do anything for 2 months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week.

November 15
Doesn’t it ever rain in this damn place?
Water restrictions are next, so my P20,000 worth of palms might just dry up and blow into the pool.
The only things that thrive in this hell-hole are the flies.
You don’t dare open your mouth for fear of swallowing half a dozen of the little bastards!

November 20
Welcome to HELL!
It got to 42 degrees today.
Now the air conditioner is gone in my car.
The repair man came to fix it and said, ‘Hot enough for you today?’
Anyway, had to spend the P30,000 mortgage payment to bail me out of jail for assaulting the stupid prick.
Botswana!
What kind of sick, demented idiot would want to live here!

December 1
WHAT!!!! The FIRST day of Summer????

 wow.

S/he's from the UK so I am assuming thats 42 degrees celcius? Can't be! And this person is crying like this?? Cadaans are on another level when it comes to calacaal.

:pac: The blogger should go to Djibouti. Now THAT place is hot. Rather, stay away actually. I prefer that option.

Amira lol I should carry banana peels to throw, just for women like her! :lost:

You cannot argue with a single thing she said. She wasn't being disrespectful, just sharing her observations. Nonetheless it is sad to hear people say your country is boring, but we are to blame for that. We destroyed the most interesting cities with its centuries old diverse communities, fascinating architecture and delicious cuisine & failed to develop the rest of the country to acceptable standards. Be angry at Somalis not this Cadaan lady.
