An entire way of life under threat. Somali nomads.
Watching this video, it is clear that the Somali way of life is under severe threat. Pastoralism is no longer a viable options for many in the miyi due to desertification and global warming. Snetters, what do you think Somalis should do.
1. Become agro-pastoralists ( farm and have some animals at the same time.
2. Abandon pastoralism completely and start becoming farmers.
3. Make reserve areas ( areas which vehicles are banned totally and frankincense trees are protected from being cut) to protect traditional pastoralism.
If you have any ideas please free to contribute.

Abandoning pastoralism is hardly an option as most of the land is semi desert and will be useless for growing food for 3/4 of the year. What is preferable is urbanisation but you a need to have trade. People living in the cities can get by importing their food from places like Beledweyne, Jubbas and Shabelle regions.

Erm, its already happening. Jareer farmers in a lot of areas are rapidly over taking Ethnic Somalis, specially in the more "hodan" places. We're losing our country bit by bit due to demographics while Somalis continue to sleep on this issue.

How about if Somalis stop pastoralism in fertile areas to farm and establish a firm presence especially in the southern regions. Somalia has enough land to be self-sufficient in food and to export food at the same time.
