Between the 1977 failed coup attempt and the 1982 armed struggle movement of the SNM.

Date: June, 1982

Duration: Two weeks

Rebels: Hawaadle military dissidents

Cause and Reason: In protest over the political purge of 1982 in which 6 prominent ministers were arrested, primarily over the arrest of the former mayor of Muqdisho and then minister Osman Jele, a Hawadle.

Actions and Consequences: Muqdisho awoke to find leaflets cast across the city with the words Jeele ama Jidka inscribed on them, Jele or the Roads. It turned out that dissident military officials blockaded the region of Hiiraan, from Jalalaqso to Matabaan, virtually stopping the north-south traffic flow of the country. The countries central highway was cut in half. Siad Barre threatened to send in the military and wrote a letter to the Ugaas. The Ugaas requested he release his kinsman first, the rebels threatened to extend the blockade even further into Jowhar.Isbaaro was introduced to Somalia, Hawadle filed the patent application lol

Outcome: After two weeks of negotiations (between Hawadle and the Somali Republic  ), a resolution proposed by the Mudulood and Karanle elders was adopted  Regional officials and certain notables were appeased by various means

Tribalizing the matter was very ill advised but if this move had resonated across the country, a nation wide stance against autocracy....:notsure:

The moment that rewired any public resistance was the execution of General Salad Gaberye and his fellow General Ainanshe. When MSB, saw that their respective qabiils did not even make a peep, he knew could take them on later. Hawiye and Issaq lost the plot that day

I heard about Jeelle ama Jidka, it's no suprise sxb reer Hiiraan have always been a powerhouse. Did Cusmaan Jeelle leave straight for Saudi Arabia when the War broke out? BTW, what happened to Sh Cali Jimcaale after the coup? He was a popular figure in the 60s but disappeared from the scene?

AW, Salaad Gabayre told Barre to set up the defence ministry in Dayniile, Murusaduu ku xumaynaayay

Aside from the comic touch to the story, there was an opportunity. Youre right but the progress of the revolution overshadowed any ulterior motives in the early stages and most of the officers in the junta were juniors naively believing in camaraderie and the revolution itself.

If I'm not mistaken he left a year earlier, the Saudi Interior Minister convinced Barre that he was coming for treatment after they found out that he was apparently on a no fly list which included every notable Hawiye in Xamar  . Sh Ali Jimale was among a handful of mps and disenchanted government officials who knew the coup was going to take place and welcomed it, he died a few months prior to the military takeover.

Do you think he could've re-conciliated Somalis after the ousting of Barre if Jimcale became Pres.?

Obviously the Abgaal vs HG and the violence after it would've been avoided. Maybe even the 1994 famine, only Allah knows.

Somalis actually thought Siyad bare would be a great Somali patriot , thats was the reason why isaaq and hawiye did not avenge the killings of high ranking generals ,they believe these generals were closer to each other.

Geoseven, you should read Caydiids books and his account of the revolution. He was dead set against it and did not trust Siyad or Gabeire. He wanted to organize a counter coup but Egal did not act decisively. The coup was an open secret to the military.

As for my Xawadles, what happened? You were the only qabiil who stood up proudly for Hawiye and we're not compromised with that Somaliweyn diseases

Ethiopian Army and SSDF invaded Somalia in 1982, they tried to divide Somalia but at the end of the day, the allies only captured two somali towns (Balambale and Goldogob).
Who won this brief war?

Is true Siad Barre survived this war and his power increased after the conflict, the ethiopians and Abdullahi Yusuf (leader of SSDF) could not defeat Barre. This is the somali point of view.

The ethiopian point of view. They captured part of Somalia and Ethiopian army proved that ethiopians could defeat Somalia in a conventional conflict. Somali insurgency insurgency backed by Ethiopia continued after the war but this time with a new guerrilla , the famous SNM of Issaqs.

Did Caydiid speak about post 91 Somaliland? What was his relationship with Egal like after they overthrew Siyaad together?

Gabre, he was cordial with the Issaqs. He later on made the founding father of Somaliland, Tur, his prime minister
