Fayum Portraits

Post by ZubeirAwal »

Staring into the faces of people who lived before the prophet (saw) (fayum portraits date back 2000 years ago) truly brings about a moment of reflection. You see faces of people today within their faces, obviously since most of the portraits date back to the roman era of egypt that you will have modern-day egyptians in the portraits, rather than the reddish brown ancient Egyptians who have been defeated.

Many more can be found online but watch out for fakes, not much has changed in the faces of man!

Those people looked much more "Semitic" like than typical Egyptians today. The Gracile features, the pointy Nose and the greasy appearance. Modern Egyptians are much more Robust like with more "rounder" so to speak features at times and even some slight almost west African influence in some.

It's pretty interesting...

I'm suspcious. They look a lot like oil-on-canvas paintings (except on wood) and the level of skill involved in depicting the natural angles of light :notsure:
