Well I've been rich and I've been poor.... I'd take being rich.

Depends on the person and their intentions imo. If you're genuinely the type of person that likes to actively impact his surroundings positively then I'd say it's certainly a blessing. However if you want to be rich for materialistic reasons, as the majority of the people (myself included) I reckon it'd do you more damage than good.
