Posting Pictures of Deceased

Post by EvolSyawla »

So a cousin of mine just posted some family members who have died (from old age, to sickness to victims of the war) on FB. A bunch of other relatives have jumped on her saying it's dambi, and I don't know if that's right. This family member was only trying to bring good memories and obviously reminding us all to make dua for them.

Is it actually dambi to do that? Or just a social faux pas?

I'm not sure specifically hun, but I know hanging pictures in the house or drawing pictures of humans & animals is dambi.
I don't have any evidence for/against this one, maybe another SNetter with evidence can help us out?

I don't know tbh... my brother (more educated in this than me) said that pictures should be limited to necessity, e.g. passport or ID.
Not sure about online or diseased people though.

I am not a scholar or anything, but it would feel weird(for me personally) to post pictures of my deceased family member/s. It's better to make sincere dua for that person.

You should maybe look for a scholar who can answer your question.

Agreed.

Snet has a bunch of well learned Muslims though. Hopefully someone will pop up...

Just because they are well learned doesn't mean they are qualified to answer. That's just my opinion. :)
