When will somalis get tired of qabiil?
I just get exhausted by hearing the word "qabiil". Everywhere I go I hear somalis talk about it. The obsession is real. They need to be obsessed with something more beneficial.

When the Day of Judgement is upon us. Anyway, why do you ladies care? Leave it to us menfolk and stick to producing the next generation of savage tribalists.

Warya, a woman is qabil neutral so it should not really bother them. 'Ninka waaso weey tehe' is what I have heard.incognito1 wrote:they care because the will be giving birth to the "tribal savages" you speak of . i could see LMFAOO giving birth to the biggest tribalist savage
Disclaimer: Mods, I am not the author of that poorly spelled Somali quote.

Re: When will somalis get tired of qabiil?
This one of my favorite posts concerning qabil.
Here is another interesting quote
BlackVelvet wrote:
We need people who can create a system that allows Somalia and Somalis to slowly move away from the qabiil mentality. Qabiil is a symptom of poverty, when you have nothing your qabiil is your protection. Even in this day and age, they are the ones who will build you wells and schools in your tuulo. We are not in a place where we can, from an economic standpoint, shun qabiil. Eventually when Somalia progresses enough that the poor are not begging for handouts from their kinsmen, when qaaran is replaced by taxation and a welfare system, then perhaps we will be able to take the first steps away from qabyalad.
Here is another interesting quote
Perfect_Order wrote:Qabil is completely economical system, improve the economics and the dependency on qabil will dramatically decrease. For example:
Maintaining ones xoolo, you need to have protection from raiders and gauaranteed grazing land.
Paying of Mag, since killing someone the price is a 100 camels, so you need some kind of insurance.
These are the two main reasons for Qabil in Somali society. So if you have a state apparatus that can protect and try criminals outside our xeer system, then you will see Qabilism reduced. Political Qabilism is a relatively new thing and I don't think it will last long.

the failed quote was uncalled for, but more or less we are saying the same thing. these anti qabiil sister will one day give birth to qabiil warriors, whether that of their own qabiil or that of their future spouse of a different qabiil.

Re: When will somalis get tired of qabiil?
Daroods made people everyone Qabiileste, walahi before I was maskiin and didn't care much for Qabiil. But having lived with these monsters (Sheydaans) I am now Qabiil realist. I'd subconsciously put my people before anyone.
To some extend I know it's wrong, because I grew up with every Qabiil and I hate myself for being qabiileste but it's a defense mechanism.

Re: When will somalis get tired of qabiil?
Simply Serene, I do sympathise with Jasmine’s view and it certainly offers a plausible reason in the context of those who live in Somalia and somali inhabited territories . However, I have recently discovered that tribalism is also created and disseminated by diaspora somalis who one could argue are not that financially/materially deprived. I can understand if a geeljire or a town dweller in Somalia uses the tribe as a mechanism of survival or as an insurance policy, but, how do you explain when somalis born in the diaspora believe in it and use it?
My conclusion is this; it is mental poverty. Through our parents, our recent history, we are intellectually impaired. We, have over the years, adapted a flock mentality. Thinking outside the bubble we created is often met with resistance.
Add to that there are academics (somalis and non-somalis) who endorse this nonsense not to mention the wadaads who claim that Allah sanctioned it without describing the context of the sanction.
Tribalism, in the somali context, has become to cite Karl Marx, an opium to the people since it is preached by wadaads, losers in the diaspora and somalis traumatised by the civil war.
I don't understand why somalis in the diaspora who are educated promote this malady of all maladies.
P.s. the PO quote is on the money when put in the context of those back home; but, it does not answer why say in Washington, where he lives, somalis worship this nonsense.

Interesting points
Maybe if things improve back home I think that will influence the the diaspora as well in positive way. May change that bad mentality. Just guessing

I wish that could happen. But, this cancer has been institutionalised; the 4,5 system, the creation of tribal enclaves with the suffix land in Somalia. Even the beacon of hope in terms of peace, Somaliland, has institutionalised this disease.SimplySerene wrote:Interesting points

The elephant in the room is flock mentality and our inability to speak our minds.
