US/Western airstrikes, is ISIS really the target?

So the Kurd fighters PKK/YPG were fighting ISIS off Kobani before the US/western airstrikes begin, they did well relatively. but ironically when airstrikes began and intensified, ISIS advanced more and more and today it controls at least 50% of the city. (the Pentagon itself said we should prepare for the fall of Kobani)!
How come that after 100s of airstrikes not a single high ranking isis was killed? even the foot soldiers more rebels than isis are killed by those raids.
While US/western attacks managed to kill in one year
1- Doko Omarov, jihadist emir in Caucasus.
2- Godane, Alshabab emir.
3- Hakimulla Mahsod, Pakistan Taliban emir.
Is US really fighting ISIS or just paving the way for them?!
