recently i got involved in a conversation with a fellow from hargeisa,and we talked on the first settlers of the town,my friend said the cidagale were the first settlers and they send for sheekh madar to teach them Quran ,i said its the other way around,sheekh madar came to settle disputes between waring tribes,then when he gave up on them he went to dwell on an area full of bushes with lions and beasts then him and his followers cut down the bushes and pushed the beasts away that area became a big leather market afterwards hence the name also hargeysa.........but both our stories were heard from elders and maqaxiis......but wonder if there is an authentic book about it .

Ciidagale were first settlers.

Cidagale Sultan was the first inhabitant of Hargeisa. Then Arab joined him since Arab and Cidagale had alliance. Back in the days Cidagale and Arab were like one entity. If you fcuk with Arab, your fcukin with Cidagale.

The Sultan then married Sacad Muse lady and so the Sacad Muse joined him and finally the Isaxaaq formed alliance with the Cidagale and joined him under the umbrella Cidagaleweyne (Cidagale, Arab and Isaxaaq). So that's how Hargeisa begun and remains home to Cidagale, Arab, Sacad Muse and Isaxaaq. Credit to Cidagale brothers.

Cidagale was and is still very hospitable people who often don't brag a lot. They are very passionate and masters of the Somali language thus they can sound intermediating but really they are soft on the inside.

They used to be powerful sultanate but begun declining ever since 1940s and never really recovered. Isaac gives them the grand Isaac Sultan title because of their legacy as a great son of Isaac rulers.

Sheikh Madar was brought to Hargeisa by the British after they feared Sayyid Abdulla Hassan would kill him in Sheikh or even Berbera. The Dervishes had members operating in Burco. They wanted to get away from him but equally expressed concern about Abyssinia's Ras Makonnen who was heading for Hargeisa too after neutralizing Harar and the Jarso. Hargeisa pre-dates the Madar by at least 50 years.

well hawdian..!!...the mad mullah and his gang came to existence between 1890-1920....i believe sheekh madar AUN lived way back than the mad mullah days...!!....beside i appreciate if you have documents,website or pictures to support your argument....thanks

Hargeisa was first settled by somali hebrews, puntites and oromos.they were defeated by the followers of sheikh al isaac and jamat of sheikh al yusuf al kowneyn.i am baasto forget what your clan told you.
