Is there hope for Somalia?

We have a corrupt and ineffective political class.
A government that has no institutions, and does not serve the public.
A political framework that divides the country instead of uniting it.
An army that is made up of militias and runs on different clan interests.
18 f-king thousand foreign troops that may or may not leave anytime soon.
A hopeless dream of democracy that has never worked nor will not work for Somalis. Look at Iraq and Afghanistan.

What the fuck is Vision 2016? A dream not worth the paper it is written on. Let us face the reality in Somalia. People don't have food nor security. We still have a violent insurgency, that is still very much alive. We don't have the infrastructure to even vote for a mayor in a tuulo let alone national elections.

So, as things stand, with the foreign-backed government of today, is there hope for Somalia?

Whoa, shots fired

Why not use facts and figures, be realistic by taking into account where Somalia was and what was handed to them 2 years ago and at least support the government until the end of its term. It's not 2016 yet and you've already decided they're going to fail, way to go PO

No f-king hope.

Seperate paths is the only solution.

If hawiye listened to me, i would tell them to declare independence from Somalia. Let darood carry the dead Somalia in Jubbooyinka or in Puntland.
Hawiye should mind their own business, unite their people, kick the terrorist rats.

I'm just keeping it 100. Where they were two years ago isn't any different where they are now. Except that Amisom/Ethiopia/Kenya/Djibouti, have taken some cities from Alshabab. But that does not mean the government controls those areas, nor are they more capable of controlling those areas better than two years ago.

The capital is the representation of the nation. Hence why it matters the most... Everything you said only applies to below Gaalkayo. Can someone answer why this is so ? PO answer this to answer your own questions.

Jasmine6, your blind support of the Hasan is getting annoying. Only a outright retard would state he is a success or even near that. He is a unparalleled failure. Villa Xamar attack was the last straw.

No hope for somalia for the following reasons.

1. There is no united hawiye nor marehan power (those are the only ones who believe in somalia) if marehan is little bit more powerfull or hawiye gets together Somalia could already survived.

2. Puntland (the only funcationing state of somalia) is a big fan of somaliland separitists (Dont be fooled by their blue colors They like us indeed) . the more Somaliland drifts away puntand wants jump out of the sinking ship. Interestingly jubaland is also a big fan of puntland so what ever puntland does jubaland will do so.
3. maxaa kuu soo hadhay D&M ? 2016 is their favourite year as there will be a huge drought all over bay and bakool ! . ilmada cesho baan ku idhi phuk somalia.

Somalia is hopeless according to our friend from Seattle Somalia is hopeless but yet he wants hopeless Somalia to Unite with Somaliland that is one of the reasons i cant take walanweyns very serious specially of the Marehan branch

The Yuusuuf puntland ambitions is different than Somaliland , Puntland politics is to have a separate Puntland, but to use Puntland as a launching pad to get leverage on Mogadishu Puntland wants to have a state with in a republic but that their state is on equal terms with the state in Xamar. Puntland has no interest in breaking away because Puntlanders their hearts is in Mogadishu their challenge is with Mogadishu they cant separate from Somalia. Slaamaha MJ maba dhali jirin ilaa ay hawada Xamar so uursadaan. Look at the creators of Puntland Cabdilahi yusuf he became the president of puntland the first one and later the president of the TFG. Trust me puntland will and can never declare independence their interest is with the Hawiye ama pm ha u noqdaan ama wasiir.

2 years ago Al Shabab pretty much controlled the whole south and this government has cleared them out from large areas of the Shabelles and Mogadishu which despite this guerilla attacks has been safer recently.

There has been a lot of infrastructure and development including the port and airport which are all as a result of the decisions made by the government and their successful diplomacy. They've managed to restore a level of trust with the international community and therefore a lot more people are now willing to invest in Somalia as a result of this diplomatic work around the world. They've also put into place the mechanisms we need for nation building. What they're doing is building the foundations, it takes time, Rome wasn't built in a day.

There's also the back to school programme where they've put somewhere around million children back to school. Each ministry has to be accountable so they've set up committees made up of MPs to ensure that the ministries are performing as they should. By so doing they've created some level of accountability which didn't exist in other governments.

The central bank is up and running which has led to private banks openign up and being able to function.

I could go on and on and we could look at each ministry in turn. It's not perfect and if we're being honest neither are Western countries. The institutions that need building will take time but they are under way, let's not take a bulldozer just as foundations are being put into place. Now is the time to come together and rally towards progress and a brighter future for all Somalis.

No future as long as our loyalty is to clans first. Until we become a meritocratic society, we will remain a banana republic however much state institutions are put in place. If only the West would let a native Islamic State prosper in Somalia because the only way to reign our clannish society is through Sharia. But Al Shabab destroyed any chance of that happening.
