An average American Somalis are much better and more affluent than Canadian Somalis. Look at the houses they are claiming to be selling around $700,000:

You can find a house two times that size at the beach in San Diego....

Why are Canadian houses so expensive and small with so much land? I heard the interest rates to buy a house is like 2%; is that true?

Very expensive city. Is that what the typical Canadian house looks like? To me they look like something you'd find in a lower income American neighbourhood.

Guhad, Fort Mac has some of the most expensive real estate in North America. Average incomes in Fort Mac exceed $100K so of course real estate is expensive. Houses like that will cost half that in other cities. This is not California where the average person is making $10 per hour and struggling to pay off $500 rent. The difference here is that Somalis in California cannot afford a home like that in their city while Somalis in Alberta can. There are more Somali home owners in Canada than U.S. Somali incomes in Canada are higher than Somali Americans. Guhad your housing is cheap because no one can afford to own over there due to their poverty line income.

Blackrain, there's many (Somali) Americans from low to high skilled ones. It shouldn't be difficult

During the financial meltdown, I swear to god my own brother bought a 4 bedroom house in a sweet neighborhood that use to be worth $180k for $40k through bank foreclosure...owner was so pissed that he didn't leave the house without using a hammer to trash it but thank god for the Mexicans. Brother hired 3 Mexicans for 2 months and paid them $5 an hour. The material caused $20k...now he has rented to a Somalia family under section 8...with that rental he has been getting from them and his other business he has bought a $150k 5 bedroom seating on 3, 897 sq ft..first day I've seen it had me feeling some type of way :wow: :MJ:

I've seen American ghettoes and those exact same style of houses. The middle income one looks better but small like U.K houses.
What is the location of that million pound u.k house?

Cherine, don't insult my intelligence. We've all been to the UK. You can't say Canadian homes are small like UK homes. We are not cramped in 5 by 5 rooms and sleep next to our stoves like the British with a little fenced backyard only enough to place a wooden shed in.

Cherine its your country. You have come across hundreds of small row houses with a similar price tag

Thrilled for Somali-Canadians who are making a difference in their lives and community. However, I watched a program of how Somalis do all the menial jobs in Fort McMurray, whatever the name is, than others. There were quite a few Somali-Canadians with degrees in computer science, programming but were cooks for oil workers with high school diploma -- white privilege at play?

On a different note: You can't compare California to Alberta or Canada. California is the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. If California was a standalone nation, its economy would the 7th largest in the world, larger than Brazil's, Italy's, and Canada. It would be on par with UK's economy.

I would rather live here in California

than here, Canada.

I wasn't comparing them to the shit houses you've been in though but to similarly priced detached properties in the U.K.[350,000$=200,000£] The dimensions of that middleclass house is more closer to the U.K ones than to the American houses. The houses are even closer together just like the U.K where as in America ..they have huge front yards and huuuuge spaces seperating each house.
