Somali Stereotypes
I stick to the political section, but I decided to mix politics with relationships. It's the best of both worlds. You kill 2 birds with one stone.
I have noticed Somalis love to propagate myths that are self-serving. I was told stories of pre-war Somali in Mogadishu about how the local men would marry women only to divorce them soon after, or take on another wife. The fable was that they didn’t value the institution of marriage but preferred some halaal dalliance. Rather they bailed after the honeymoon period. Sure they were more poetic with their words, but this was predicated on deceit and short-term relations. However, northern men were seen as traditionalists, rough around the edges, honest but more husband material.
Clearly this isn’t the case now...
Look at Menace he’s reer waqooyi but he’ll take a pass at anything that moves. He’s constantly in active pursuit of his next baby momma whereas; thehappyone is afraid of his own shadow and normally miskeen. He seems more monogamous comparatively.
Have you heard any other myths? I'm eager to exchange stories...

Re: Somali Stereotypes
I agree people do it all the time. And it certainly was not an outlier or isolated. And 3 million you must be kidding me, back then there were barely 2 million in the whole of the Somali Republic, forget about in Mogadishu alone. Please do not rely on fraudulent national statistics. Anyway, I'm merely the messenger so don't shoot.
Re: Somali Stereotypes
I don't know how true that myth is but Its wrong to assume that the menfolk from the South were/are less honest or that they don't value their women. Certainly you'll find good and bad everywhere whether it be from the North, South, East or West. Men are men. Some just happen to be F***ing assholes.
Menace is just that, a menace. self-proclaim ladies man.
THO, No comment.

Re: Somali Stereotypes
Walaweyns in xamar have gilrfreinds and boy friends something very taboo in the north. If I have relationship with a girl (illegal intercourse or what ever) in buurao borama or lets say hargeisa and you ask me man who is that girl ? I would say WAAN LA SHEEKAYSTAA.
Aska a reer xamar the same question and he would say ABOO SAAXIIBTAY WAAYE NOOH. Having western like relationship is normal in mogadishu, even their parents are oki with that. You can knock the door and ask yout girls father ADEER XALIIMO MA JOOGTAA WAA YARKII SXB KEEDE ? the dad would say HOY XALIIMO ! SOO BAX YAKHI YARIISAW AA BANAANKA KUU TAAGAN.
what a walaweyn sodog !

Re: Somali Stereotypes
reer xamar aka hawiye are good people, in the time i have known them they have been nothing but warm and welcoming.their dhaqan/dialect is softer than most other somalis, which is a good thing depending on who you are.

Re: Somali Stereotypes
I have heard positive and negative stereotypes from every region, along with their antithesis. So don't worry people I'm not a bigot. Just testing the waters with regard to where you stand.
Baasto that's a struggle, you are still dealing with cassettes.
thehappyone just be flattered.
