Ceebta Soomaalida

I don't think I'm alone in being completely sick of the constant negative news associated with Somalis, both back home and in qurbaha. I chalk it down to two things; the failure and complete inability for most somali refugees/asylum seekers to get to grips with life in the west whether due to cultural, religious or psychological clashes and secondly, the constant media bias, sensationalism and misrepresentation of somalis.
The first problem spawns from the complete and utter breakdown of somali society back home and lawlessness across much of the peninsula. Even the most stable regions like SL and PL lack basic insitutions and amenities. This has led to a generation of somalis who have grown up in a country where dog-eat-dog is the law and manners, decency, dignity, sophistication and imaan are a thing of the past. A nation where begging is the national past-time to the point where the so called "governments" live on foreign hand-outs. All we can do is pray to Allah and ask that this shame and humiliation ends soon. We can also do our bit to help our people and not take advantage of them - which unfortunately many educated diaspora who go back home do.
As for the second problem. Somalis really need to set-up media watch-dogs, PR companies and libel law firms. Unfortunately, we lack the initiative and the expertise for this because Somalis are one of the least educated/successful immigrant group. But even one company is something.
TL:DR - We shouldn't be depressed with the current predicament of the Somali people. We should have sabir and do our bit individually to ensure a successful and positive image of Somalis, both inside and outside of Somalia.
