Interactive Music Videos

Post by Sophisticate »

I noticed a recent trend where music videos are slowly turning into primitive Role Playing Games (RPGs). Unfortunately, the user doesn’t have a creative way of interacting like throwing a lemon meringue pie at the artist. We're not there yet, but at least they're starting to give you click-and-play and instead of push-to-play. It may never happen but imagine if it got to the level of Fable, Grand Theft Auto or Final Fantasy then that would be impressive. In the meantime, all you have are the likes of Kanye, Taylor, Coldplay and now Trey making an attempt.

I think it all started with Michael Jackson and his Smooth Criminal music video leading you up to the Moonwalker game. I salute the man for building up anticipation. Without him there would be no interactive music videos today. I stand by this. He paved the way. On a side note, you know that orphan Annie would end up on a milk carton if MJ didn't step in. That’s my personal opinion. If it wasn't for MJ you wouldn't be able to trek on with Trey Songz in his “Touching Lovin’” video where he contemplates which combination of scantily clad ladies to do the mating dance with. Lame. Where are the cool dance moves? :mindblown:

For once THO I actually agree with you. I was somewhat weirded out. It forces you to click on any one-of-two options, leading you to some random female. I don't get what the red pill and blue pill thing were about, matrix reference methinks.

Was this an r.kelly song?

I think the pills and other objects that u can click on define what the next women will wear, and her personality perhaps? Like, I clicked on the white pill, and she was wearing white fur and seemed like a nice girl (lol), when its just trey and a girl and u have to click I think u can click somewhere on the girl and trey will touch her there or u can click somewhere else and he will leave the girl, i dont know, thats what i got

r kelly ft biggie - use to me spending/f-king u tonight Image some of the lyrics atleast

Interesting assessment of the song. I notice a similarity with the kellz song now that I'm listening to it. The lyrics are closely-matched. Trey is clearly paying homage to him, but the video falls short.

Off topic, THO if that's you.

I was gonna give a song dedication, but sadly most of the decent ballads are written by men. Kinda emasculating for you sxb. So, I'll just thank you kindly instead.

Should artists scale back and just focus on push-to-play music videos like its always been? Do you see more artists making interactive music videos? Do you think they will take it a step further and make it more interactive than the choose your own adventure click-and-play option?

some will say artists should release their music on cassettes, some vinyl records, some say reintroduce the jukebox, it doesnt matter what we think, its all about profit maximising, the point of these interactive videos is that you rewatch the same video a dozen times and and exlore all paths, by the time u finished the story the song will be permanently impaired in your brain Image latest brainwashing
