Okay so I'm seeing a lot of negativity about Somalia lately, and its discouraging since I'm planing to visit this summer, and have been dying to see the country for years.
what are some positive experiences that you guys had? and some pleasant memories you had in Somalia.

You will feel right at home and at ease with yourself. The sand dunes are to die for. People are friendly.

Here's the positive things I've experienced.
You will be treated like a celebrity, people will want to take pictures with you and most of them are friendly.
Your heart will be at peace somehow, I cried hearing the adaan calling, every prayer.
You will hear stories you never heard before about your ancestors, how they lived, where they slept and such.
Your Afsomali will improve.
You will eat fresh food every single day.
You can sleep under the stars at night and feel safe.
Your faith will be restored by seeing your motherland.

First of all it depends where you go. And all that negativity you hear about is going to impact you if you are directly involved in politics. If you don't go searching for trouble no one is going to bother you. Its an amazing experience thats hard to describe. If you going there for the first time prepare for culture shock. For me it was wonderful to walk around and not feel like a minority I felt a sense of purpose and belonging. It was also amazing to meet other people from Australia, Canada,States, Norway, Denmark who were sharing the same experience as me. As adventurous person and amateur photographer there is no better place to travel to.
Don't get discouraged as long as you with family you good.
