Today I Applied For My First Job...

Post by Jabuutawi »

And I was denied. The company's Uber  They said I have to be 23 to become a partner. Needless to say I was disappointed. Drivers make $1,000/week or more. I want to do this to show the "old' man that I can stand on my own two feet (to the women: my own 13'' shoe size feet ;) ). Y'all know where I am going with this. Anyways, I want to save for my airline ticket to get back to my university in January. I have decided to go back, and to show that I am a responsible person, I asked pops not to chip in any money. I suppose the alternative is to work as a clerk or a waiter but I won't be saving as much or as fast as I would like to before mid-January.

$1000 a week? That is not bad. How many hours do you have to work a day, and how many days a week? Also, don't you have to pay taxes on your Uber income or not? Yeah, as a student who wants some extra $$ during the holidays it's an easy job if you can get it.

Nothing really wrong with being a cab driver, it's just another job to reach your objective /goal.

But be careful being a cab driver. I've heard alot of horror stories and passengers accusing drivers of inappropriate sexual contact.

Good luck to you and your studies.

I'm thinking of doing Uber. I have a new car.

At the same time, I don't know if I want to drive people who will make my car dirty. I'm very particular.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement, particularly Miss Bonita.

Yes, you can make a $1K/week during rush hours, 5 am-9 am and 5 pm-7 pm and during major sports and entertainment events in the city. If your city has major sports leagues like NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS and NHL, easy money made. I know one Indian guy who makes $7K/month from driving, though he puts in 60hrs/week.

Hats off to all the taxi and truck drivers out there, making an honest buck from driving is nothing to be ashamed of. I want to earn my way in life and build character along the way

Good luck, mate. Don't listen to some of these Maryooleys whose main job is to make fun of other decent people while they're good for nothing. I used to drive taxi during the holidays and weekends back in my college days and there is nothing wrong with one to earn their living, instead of relying on others (whether family, government handouts or even worse, illegally).
