Tahribers Forcing Diaspora Somalis into Bankruptcy.
I got a call this weekend....apparently a relative of mine has fallen victim to the Libyan kidnappers that prey on tahribers.
They're basically a Bedouin tribe that occupy the interior of Libya....tahribers have to run the gauntlet to reach the coast.
We have five days to pay these ragheads $5000.....or my cousin is brown bread.
My cousin has said he has witnessed the death of three xabashi and two Somali's since he's been held.
Needless to say folk are scrabbling around trying to raise the ransom money.
This is the third time I've been tapped up for ransom money in recent years.....it's getting beyond ridiculous.
I know of one family that has had to pay four ransoms in the last 18 months....and none of the tahribers made it to the west.
They'll be paying back the ransom money for years.
The question I want to put to snetters is this...." Shall we take a leaf out of the British book...(whom recently withdrew from rescuing tahribers at sea, because they claimed this would only encourage more to make the perilous journey), and refuse to pay ransom money?
PS I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of these kidnaps weren't genuine.

Re: Tahribers causing diaspora Somalis into bankruptcy.
I got the same call last year but it wasn't as deep of a ransom. It was only $800US on my part. A month later get a call from the same cousin same story same Libyan city. I told him he is on his own. Good luck and goodnight.

Walalo, you have a moral duty to help your cousin. It is despicable and immoral to even float the idea of not helping him because it may encourage other tahreebers to ask for help from their relatives to pay a random money. Even if some of the calls for help are a scam, are you willing to gamble with the life of a relative? If you can help out tou should do so and if you cant....well you cant

I always pay my allotted share....always.
It just seems to me that it's almost on a weekly basis...you hear of similar ordeals.
Somali's are among the lowest income groups in the UK...they can't afford to keep paying these ransoms.....something has to give.

Re: Tahribers Forcing Diaspora Somalis into Bankruptcy.
Nobody forced these people to leave their peaceful countries in search of iPhones and caydh money. Also, they went on the perilous journey knowing the risks of capture, murder and rape. I paid once before but I made it a point not to pay again. I already pay relatives back home wtf, am I a bank?
Re: Tahribers Forcing Diaspora Somalis into Bankruptcy.
I always vow to never help with that but part of me feels bad and guilty.Picturing myself on the other side of that road. For the first time,i said no few months ago.Still wish i did help a little when he was missing in a Libyan system.
Unfortunately we do enable.

tuushi, is he at least safe now and survived?
i disagree to enabling them. we always do. people back home do not work or do something for themselves cause they wait that $200 every month!!
recentlly, i suggested to give some one sum of money to start small bussness instead sending monthly allowance!!
i told them to feraash darin and sell vegi or tusbah or whatever legal. Allaheyna o barakeyni.
$5000 is a lot of money, they could start small bussness and stand their own feet back home. instead giving bedoun thugs on my expence.

He is safe and sound in Europe now.
I tried that many times hyper. The business idea.Lost lots of money in bogus business idea only to have the very same people call again for more. The only way to win is either suck it up and give what u can monthly or have people collectively say no.

Re: Tahribers Forcing Diaspora Somalis into Bankruptcy.
The money has been collected.....mostly borrowed from multiple sources...including monthly welfare cheques...kids even emptied out their piggy banks.
Insha'llah they will free my cousin....however, his companions may not be so lucky....apparently their relatives can't raise the funds.
I doubt this is the end for my cousin.....he still has to hope these Bedouin keep their word ( sometimes they take the ransom and hand you over to other Bedouin).
Then he has to travel through Libya all the way to the coast....then he'll need more money to pay people smugglers.

Hyper.....you don't understand the mentality of the Tahribers.......they have resolved to make to the west....or die trying.
They tell each other it is the will of Allah (swt) whether they live or die.....they are thus fearless...women with babies even make this perilous journey.

Re: Tahribers Forcing Diaspora Somalis into Bankruptcy.
When it comes to Tahriib and Libya i have decided long time ago not to waste energy, it is not even about the money it is the whole mentality of risking your life and getting few coins in the other side of the sea.
I normally tell them waxa aan wax u raadineyno waa "NAFTA" hadii eyada khatar gelino maxaa soo kordhinay?
tan labaad in badan oo tahriibayaalka ka mid ah lacagta ey tahriib ka u isticmaalaan nolol ayay kasoo saaran karaan.
my problem is not even the ransom or Libyan people but the Sudanese Desert and the Mediterranean Sea.
