If the civil society make an effort to encourage employment among youth, i'm sure many will leave Shabaab..

This guy wasn't caught in battle, he turned himself in. Therefore, if he is treated decently more of them will be encouraged to turn themselves in.

If you really want AL Shabab to continue, then you will treat these sorts of people badly and then there will be no incentive for Al Shabab to stop this.

The only people who should want to see him treated badly are the ones who want to see Al Shabab continue.

The Kenyans tried to take him when he was first caught. Cabaas and his men refused and wouldn't transport until the Somali government sent over parliamentarians to escort him when he was moved to Kenya for transport. They couldn't cause blatant disrespect the Somali government at that stage.

No need to treat him like a criminal either. The government extended amnesty and the man willingly turned himself over after leaving the organization. As their longtime head of intelligence, he probably has a lot of information which would be useful in snuffing out the rest of them.
