The Triumph of Kenya, and by association the Hope for Somali

Post by Basra- »

Its OFFICIAL. Kenya has entered the realm of Democracy--in the style of its best Ally--- The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! In a historical Kenya Supreme Court decision, the court has suspended many sections in a law that was passed a month ago--on the restriction of freedom of speech, and Refugees in Kenya. Here is a quote:

"Also suspended is the right for the prosecution to withhold certain evidence and a 150,000 ceiling on the number of refugees allowed into Kenya -- which would have led to the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and other conflict-hit countries in the region.

"In respect to the limiting the numbers of refugees to a maximum of 150,000... such amendments contravene international conventions and instruments," Justice Odunga said."

Mashalaah--- I care equally for both clauses. The Freedom of Speech, and the respect of Somali Refugees. The fact that an African disgusting country is in the same PAR as a first world like the United States-- having a fully working "SUPREME COURT" is utter amazement for me. Tafadhlaan, Join me, in celebrating a torch light shinning in the Abyss of dark African continent-- in a nation called Kenya,-that bacons the dawn of democracy, and human rights recognition. We hope Somalia, a neighboring country takes note.

A milestone for African democracy and certainly one worthy of emulation!

In due time, perhaps, in as little as thousand moons or so, Somalia, as a country, shall follow suit in implementing laws similar to the one so courageously passed by Kenyan Supreme Court.

Such a bold move, on the part of Somali government, would surely go a long way to reaffirm, in no uncertain terms, and at the same time, send a clear message to its surrogate mother, viz., the international community, the country's unwavering willingness and readiness to uphold and respect the basic principles of democracy!

Basra,

I think you are a little bit mistaken in your interpretation. Of what exactly has happened. First of all, the Supreme Court has said nothing. The case hasn't even been heard. Once the chief justice apoints a three judge bench of the high court to hear the matter, then the case will be ruled based on that. after that, the case may go to the court of appeal before going to the supreme court.

Manzi

I assumed "High Court" was Supreme Court. Thanks for the corrections. It is a good step in the right direction though!
