Have you read that novel. Real Funny stories....

He said the best Slaves were Somalian. They are open and very hospitable slaves. The reason I think they were the best slaves we had is for these reasons:

1. They are very strong and healthy
2. They can adapt any place. In the desert, in the winter.
3. They are very patient and loyal to you more than their pious.
4. They value us even till today, they are the largest population Eastern Africa that lives in our continent, The west.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am still shocked how he describes us...

first of all, at least one member of EVERY group on earth were slaves at one point in time. the idea there was never an ethnic somali being enslaved is ridiculous. even the blonde hair blue eyed european was a slave. the idea that slavery was limited based on race is a MODERN invention. there is documentation of many OROMO being captured by the Amhara and being sold as slaves to Arabs and Europeans. maybe the Amhara captured a few Somalis with the Oromo.

second of all, no one called the bantu "somali" back then. the COUNTRY of Somalia was only created in 1960. before that, all that existed were tribes and ethnic groups. the word "Somal" or "Somali" only referred to ethnic Somalis. just as the word "Galla" referred to the Oromo, etc.

that was my question though....as far as i knew...there was no such thing as a somali slave...at least outside of somalia...if they were enslaved elsewhere...wouldnt you see proof of that?

Slavery was practiced all over the world, but the rules surrounding it varied from place-to-place. From my current knowledge in some South Saharan African countries people were captured as enemy clans; they would have to work for them but eventually were set free. Compare this system to the financial exploitation and cultural annihilation brought on by the Transatlantic slave trade and Arab slave trade.

In terms of slavery of indigenous Horn of Africans i.e. the Somal there aren't any verifiable historical records that indicate some mass exodus of slaves sent abroad. I don't know if its because ethnic Somalis are homogenous and vicious, they certainly terrorized Ethiopia and Kenya at some point. Hence, historically the Portuguese and the English were called upon to thwart Somali land grabbing efforts.

the problem with that assumption is that the earliest mention of the word "somal" or "somali" was made in the 15th century by a habesha king. before that we don't know what our ancestors were called. or even if they existed before then. the modern day somali ethnic group is probably no older than 1500-2000 years old. before that our ancestors were the same as the ancestors of the oromo, afar, rendille, arbore, dassanech, and other cushitic speaking peoples.

so who knows if somalis were slaves or not. its probably UNLIKELY that large numbers of somalis were enslaved (primarily because our people have always been pastoral nomads and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out there is little use for a nomad on a plantation), HOWEVER, we can't say that with absolute certainty. the history of humanity is pretty consistent. EVERYONE exploits EVERYONE.

You know what since people are admant at making up bulshitt since they are bothered by the fact that somalis werent enslaved

ill Qoute Ibn Battuta: Too fearsome to be enslaved.

What people dont get about slavery was that it wastn something you go to get.
it was simply Conquer and take war prisoners and sell them off at slave markets.

You cant enslave people whom you never conquered!

Somalia was never conquered or colonized especially during that time.
During 1415 it was europeans who were enslaved and the wast majority of the slave markets were in europe.

plus the europeans especaially italians were under moorish occupacient so impossible.

so just accept the fact that somalis are probably the only few humans that werent enslaved .
Honestly dont know why people feel bothered by this.
