Somalis from Hiiraan region condemn Ethiopia’s Liyuu police militia Aggression in Deefoow and Burdhinle Hiiraan region in Somalia.
We, Somalis from Hiiraan region and living in the diaspora, are deeply dismayed by the international community’s indifference to the unfettered menacing involvements of Ethiopia’s Liyuu Police militia in the protracted civil conflict of our country particularly in Hiiraan region of Somalia.
We urge the UN Security Council, AMISOM, and the AU to condemn Ethiopia’s Liyuu police Aggression repeated violation of Somalia’s territorial integrity and the killings of hundreds of innocent civilians today including latest assault in civilians of Hiiraan region in Somalia.
LIYUU BOLIS means ‘Special Police’ in English. LIYUU is an Amharic word that means ‘Special.’ they have been funded and supported by Ethiopian government to fight local opposition in Ethiopia. Liyuu Bolis is an Ethiopian Militia Police and they are not part of AMISOM Ethiopian Troops in Somalia. Now, for the first time in history this militia which is under Ethiopia’s supervision has crossed the border between Somalia and Ethiopia to carry out massacre and killings of local civilians in Hiiraan region of Somalia. Liyuu Bolis has history of brutality and killing of civilians inside Ethiopia which Amnesty International previously condemned several times about their atrocity, however, for the first time this militia has carried out such massacre inside Somalia particularly Abaaley and Burdhinle of Hiiraan region of Somalia.
We, Somalis from Hiiraan region in Somalia and living in the diaspora condemn the deliberate and indiscriminate artillery bombardments of the heavily populated Somali towns of Abaaley and Burdhinle of Hiiraan region by the Ethiopian militia of Liyuu Police and demand Ethiopia to stop immediately these unprovoked hostilities and unconditionally withdraw its Liyuu militia from Somalia’s territory. Reports from locals in Hiiraan region have indicated there were 40 civilians killed by Liyuu Police inside Abaaley and Burdhinle Hiiraan region of Somalia.
Ethiopia cannot have both ways being a member of AMISOM troops in Somalia and supporting LIYUU BOLIS militia to carry out killings of an innocent Somalis inside Hiiraan region while supporting silently their Liyuu militia. Ethiopia has covertly and overtly contributed to the destabilization of Somalia, arming militias and LIYUU BOLIS to do their dirty job as well as carrying out devastating militarily campaigns by using Liyuu Police inside Somalia in violations of international laws (Chapter 1, Article 1 and 2.4 of the UN Charter).
In this most recent war, the Ethiopian Liyuu Police, in support of the ASWJ militias, have subjected the border town of Abaaley and Burdhinle of Hiiraan region in Somalia to indiscriminate artillery bombardments that caused countless losses of civilian lives, displacements of thousands of families from their homes, and the destruction of the already battered infrastructures of the towns.
We, Somalis from Hiiraan region both inside and outside, condemn and denounce the mindless violence, deplorable tactics and policies pursued by Ethiopia, Ethiopian-supported militias ASW and Liyuu Police, which are collectively tantamount to genocide and War Crimes against the Somali people particularly in Hiiraan region.
We, Somalis from Hiiraan region inside and outside diaspora, call upon the International Community to equally condemn the Ethiopian’s Liyuu Police aggression on innocent Somali civilians in Hiiraan region and the violation of international human rights laws committed by Liyuu Police of Ethiopia in the current hostilities in Abaaley, Burdhinle of Hiiraan region of Somalia.
Finally, we request from the UN Security Council to establish immediately an inquiry into the violations of International laws arising from the recent massacre in Abaaleey and Burdhinle Hiiraan region of Somalia carried out by Liyuu Police of Ethiopia.
