Subject: Somali Museum - Nomadic Skills Classes and More

Hello friends of the Somali Museum -

The new year at the Somali Museum promises even more opportunities for celebrating Somali traditional culture. We are so grateful to be part of this dynamic community, and to be able to help preserve this culture for future generations. Please read on for announcements about upcoming events at the Museum.

Visit the Somali Museum
As always, the Somali Museum is open for tours for school groups, families, individuals, and professional groups. Call 612-234-1625 and leave a message to schedule your visit.

Nomadic Skills Workshop: Sanitizing with Culay and Asal
Our next arts and culture workshop features the nomadic skill of sanitizing dishes and milk containers.
Sunday, February 8
11:00 am -1:00 pm
at 1516 East Lake Street
RSVP here: facebook.com/events/355620384624419/
Resident artists will demonstrate the traditional method of cleaning vessels with asal and culay, natural materials from the maygag tree.

Weaving Class
Nomadic weaving classes are returning to the Somali Museum this spring. If you are interested please reply to this email, and we will be in touch with you directly about dates and locations. Traditional arts classes at the Museum have been made possible by voters of Minnesota, through the Minnesota State Arts Board and Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund.

Online Donations
We are now accepting donations online at the Somali Museum website. These founding days of the Museum are an excellent time for you to show your support and help build this museum for many generations to come. Donate here: somalimuseum.org/donate

As always, keep up with the Museum on Facebook, on our website, or in person. We are looking forward to seeing you!

Peace,
Sarah Larsson
