I might be able to bring her back....

Post by Advo »

last night I had people over my place, my neighbor and friends mostly. We were having a nice debate about Somalia and qabiil, everything was Gucci until most of them started expressing pro Somali and extreme anti-Arab sentiments. I knew exactly where the conversation was headed and just started zoning out mentally.

When they got brave enough to state their true agenda, I came in swinging. Basically besides me and my hommie who was of no help (smh) were the only believers. The rest consider themselves one of those bullsh!t labels. Anywho after I got my point across and they couldn't really rebuttal. They asked me if I still consider them Somali.

I told them in my own opinion I did not consider them Somali nor blood and stated my reasons. They dammm near had teary eyes cus I kept it one HUNNED. My neighbor is a great guy, I was friends with his younger brother (very religious) and he comes over all the time BUT there's no hope for the guy.

Now what surprised me was the young liberal girl who admitted to me she left Islam based on how Muslim women are treated and the fact that she didn't know much about the deen.

Anyways she said she wants to ask me more questions and is open to change, I may not be the best Muslim as I need to work on myself but inshallah soo duceeya that she comes back to the righteous path and that I can provide her with useful material.

Note: this is not a debate thread, all u extremists on both sides of the spectrum piss off.

Instead let's discuss how we can reach out to the lost young generation who are headed in that direction.

You just done opened a can of worms.

Just a small point though, you should separate nationality/ethnicity from religion. You can still be somali and be an athiest, agnostic etc.

But I agree, most somali athiests and christians are people who have a chip on their shoulder and love cadaans. The remaining few are those who have no proper understanding of Islam apart from what they see in their own lives (I.e. loose muslim girls wayward muslim boys who drink and go clubbing etc) or what the media portrays.

many people, even elder ones, have seen them back after years of self searching. some of them are scientists, doctors or even islamic educated. we are in time of fitna, you dont even know, if you are in right path with that shirk, thrown left and right on you.

May my love to only God, safe us from all this fitna.

Salafiinta ka fogee..their mosques, their books, their websites. They will suck the imaan right out of her.

Currently i'm reading the book Islam & the Destiny of Man by Charles Le Gai Eaton. It's so beautifully explains everything..i can't put it down.

Advo this thread will descend into chaos, it's better i find, to speak to the MODS before hand so they can moderate this space.

P.S it's sooo nice seeing you! :)

Thanks for the replies, I have no intention for this thread to turn into the typical xyz debates.

Hyper, I thought it was only the west that had this, ileen its global. Btw I laugh at the term free-thinking, I like how it is associated with "enlightenment", they take few biology/philosophy courses and feel the need to "upgrade"

Hydrogen, it's really hard for me to accept someone who flat out rejects the deen without a good reason. I also believe Somalis came to be because of ISLAM, those who rejected were labeled Gaalo and kicked off the land. Those who embraced became of the Somali tribe.

Cherine, thanks dear.

Lol I'm ahead of you...the girl is very liberal, so I will lead her to good Sufi material like the convert imam who lives in my state. Step by step.

I respect those Somali's strong enough to state their true beliefs. The vast majority of Somalis practice a religion called hypocrisy....

My friends always think im crazy when I tell them I estimate at least 30% of Somalis are gaalo. The vast majority of them of course keep their disbelief hidden since the price of coming out is too steep. They'd rather pay lip service to the religion and pretend to fast and attend Eid prayers in order to keep their families, friends and standing in the community, much like the hypocrites during the Prophets (PBUH) time. We have always had gaalos amongst us, but they've grown exponentially ever since the rise of al-shabaab and the likes of ISIS, which I believe was all in the plan when these groups were created.

Advocator,

To be honest, this is a reminder to all of us:

If You do not worship Allah alone, and do not pray the Salah our entire Islam is in question whether We profess to be aithiest or not. This is very scary, chilling because I can think of many, many of us who do not pray the 5 prayers. However on the flipside by us acknowledging this fact it makes it very easy to understand How someone can go from not praying to aithiest, When so many Hadeeth, Ayats put into question the Islam of one who does not pray.

Take the Hadeeth 'Man Taraka Salaatu fa leysa minna' (Whomsoever leaves the Salah is not from among us)

or

Al Ahdu Baynana Wa Baynahum As Sallah Wa In Tarakaha Fa Qad Kaffar' (The covenent between us and them is prayer and if they left it then they have disbelieved'

or the Hadeeth 'Awal Ma Yuhaasab Al Abda Yaumul Qiyaama As Salaah. In Salahat Salahat Amalu Kulluh' The first thing a slave will be judged upon is Salah. If its good His deeds will be straightened out.

So many Ayats in the Quran mentioning belief with prayer. 'Fa In Taabu Wa Aqaam As Salaah' If they repent and establish the prayer. However, How can We even talk about prayer When We also have issues as far as Tawheed many of us? Worshipping some 'Awliyo' or putting someone along the lines of Allah associating partners with Him in pure Shirk. There are some who even put some 'Awliyo' along the lines of Allah in His Rubbubiyyah (Lordship) and this is a Kuffr that even the Quraysh of Makkah never did. The Quraysh of Makkah never said Al Laat or Uzza can grant favors, etc they just said they help us get closer to Allah.

Bottom line bro is anything in life, any Religion Has a code, a way its called "Milla" in Arabic. You have fundamentals. Our fundamentals have really eroded, and we need to go back to the Asaas (fundamentals) of our Religion and How we start is Tawheed, 5 daily prayers. May Allah guide all of us to what He loves and is pleased with and protect us our families, and OUR YOUTH from Kuffr, Dhulum, Nifaaq, Xasad, and all the horrible diseases of the heart.

advo, its hard to deal with orragant one of it. but the one who are sincere and ready to listen others, woth trying and in laso daweeyo. its globel bro.

here in doha we have devil worshipers, i dont think somalis reached that far!

what i noticed the one who sincere, go stages... and they stard with , we believe God but not organized religion, then go the stsage we call in arabic ; la adri= i dont know, then la deniyeen, then reject God in all. so that last stage takes decates of researchs, if person is reallt sincere.

but what i noticed is, they all want to be free from any regulation, so people dont ask why not pray, why you drink, why you do zina... so easy is, to shock other too, i m not muslim. easy defence machanizm

First of all tell her that the most repeated word in the Quran is ponder/reflect. So one needs to ask themselves questions and Inshallah they shall find answers.

-show her revert stories-perhaps of atheist who embraced Islam-so she sees their point of view. The deen show has tonnes of stories. They're imaan boosters.
-Tell her Islam is not the same as muslims- we can be rotten individuals
-Connect her with some sisters who can give her da'wah. I am more than happy to befriend her.
-Islam is the best way of life-Nouman Ali khan has good videos-translation of surah fatiha is mind blowing- tell her its okay to question oneself and that that shows her sincerity as she wouldnt adhere to what she wasnt convinced of. we as muslims are encouraged to be inquisitive.
-Make dua for them all.

This is how I look at it . The somali genes are unique in this world . If you mix Somali with black , we will keep your blackness , if you mix you Somali with white , we will save you from distress , let her marry who she wants I say, we've got the most generous genes in the world  o.t

It's quite alarming at the number of Somali atheist that are coming out of the woodwork.

Advo, give her reading material on the status of women in Islam as mothers, daughters and wife's. It always puts a little smile on my face.

Well, I've met every type of Somali under the sun. Heck I've met Somali Christians. I still think 30% is an overestimation. I would not be too quick to pass judgment on others or claim they are "gaalo". I knew a sister that believed in God, but barely prayed or fasted and she turned things around and remained consistent. I'm sure there are those that will never believe in a higher power no matter what, it's their prerogative (or is it?). I've also met people that were believers that had strong imaan but have seen it weaken. I know people that believe for superficial reason "to keep up the appearances". The spectrum is large.
