Does it exist? I don't mean Suugaan. I mean fictional prose like the works of Dostoevsky and Moliere. :|

Very few novels from the 80's, like Nuardin Farah's books and others written in Somali, like 'Ayaan Daran' etc (not sure if they were translated into other languages) and the rest is just some amateur garbage. Just a known fact that we're indeed an oral society.

The real question is do we need fictional prose of the likes of Dostoevsky? Civilizations don't follow the same paths, and instead of wanting to follow in the footsteps of other civilizations we need to stay truth to ourselves and make our own path that is right for us.

You are right, but we seem to have little in the way of literature, fiction or otherwise. Books are an important vector for culture and tradition. Oral literature is all well and good but things can be forgotten or distorted. Also, books don't just tell stories, the convey new ideas and ways of thinking. For example, Das Kapital isn't an oral tradition but a book that changed things and people.
