The Khat Bussiness in Xamar

Post by Rambie »

Every day 16 plane fully loaded with Khat bonds lands in Xamar alone.

Lol It;s funny when the wanlawaynes pull that Khat stereotypes on Somalialnd when they waste over 100 million dollar to chew that shit.

Khat traders in Kenya have started again the export of the herbal stimulant to neighbouring Somalia after suspending it for three days due to high taxes and overpricing complaints.

Planes loaded with sacks of khat arrived in Mogadishu on Wednesday, an eyewitness confirmed.

Khat, a multi-million dollar business for countries across the Horn of Africa and in Yemen, consists of the succulent purple-stemmed leaves and shoots of a bush whose scientific name is Catha edulis.

Chewing it for hours produces a mild buzz.

One of the traders who spoke to the media said that they have been a decrease on the price following negotiations with the farmers in Kenya. But it is not clear whether the Somali government has decreased the taxes they complained of days ago.

Every day, 16 planes carrying bags loaded with khat travel from the Kenyan capital, Nairobi to Mogadishu.

Kenyan farmers generate over $100m per year for the export of khat to Somalia which large communities heavily depend on it.

The consumption of Khat increased dramatically in the South, because of the lowering of prices and increased availability. Al-Shabaab has lost most of their power so Khat consumption has few consequences.

It's true that the Reer Waqooyi Somalis used to chew a lot more than Southern Somalis. But that's because the Reer Waqooyi people were more prosperous and had a safer atmosphere. Now that Xamar is improving, you're gonna see a lot more Somalis in Xamar chewing Khat as well.

The stereotype of Reer Waqooyi Somalis chewing a lot WAS technically true, but there's a deeper story behind that.

Somalis should start growing their own khat instead of importing it from Kenya and Ethiopia and wasting millions of dollars every year. Starting a domestic khat industry will create thousands of jobs and negate the 'drain-affect' on our economy where we lose millions of dollars by importing Khat.

Walahi in 2008 when I was in Hargeisa there was qaad drought for 3 days. When the qaad arrived in the city people flooded the streets, the man and the truck driver hired military officials to ward off people from stealing the qaad off the trucks.

We shouldn't even have Khat to begin with. If I was President, I would most definitely ban the trade

The Mailman,
Banning khat now can have bad consequences; these untrained government soldiers can shoot people simply because of lack of khat(They are way too dependent on it). Magaalada dhan ayaa waalanaysaa haddii la kansalo.

I believe taxing it to the max and limiting how much khat can be imported daily can do something, along with training these government militias aka Maryo-Calas.

In Islamic Law, it is the thieves that their hands are cut, not drug addicts (Though honestly I don't know their punishment) I know this:
Habrahaan ka ganacsada mukhaadaraadkaan(khat) carruurtooda xaaraan ayay siiyaan (Odayaashuna waa la mid)

it's only around 9% of Muqdisho population who eat Khat mainly Ex militia Men and Homeless Kids, Most of Reer Muqdisho are Business people who work hard to send their kids to the best Schools and Universities around the world. i have a large Family in Muqdisho and just one of them eats Khat.

just go to YouTube and search Life in Muqdisho Videos, you will see most of the population are healthy looking with a nice beautiful Teeth and Smile.

also search Muqdisho Students and Restaurants and you will see the people.

in Muqdisho eating Khat is embarrassing and your own Family will disown you and tell you ( ilmaha hanaga fasa haadin or ilmaha hanaga haleen )

in North Somalia 90% of the population chew Khat the other 10% don't chew only because they can't afford or they are poor. in the North Somalia when Khat lands in the Airport they pick up the Khat with an Ambulance. in North Somalia hadaadan Khat cunin Nacas ayaa tahay. Isaaq people will tell you Khat is in our DNA and Khat was a Member of the SNM because SNM used to Chew Khat before they attack, so isaaq people believe Cigaal, Siilaanyo and Khaat are Somaliland Heroes.

daawo muuqaalo laga soo duubay Hargeeyso iyo wareeysiyo laga soo duubay Baarlamaanka Isaaq, walaahi ilkahooda waa yaahuu rabi yasir oo waxeey leeyihiin ilko Khaat oo laga ashahaato.
