I wondered if the same the classification on generations used in the west apply to us (Baby-boomers, Millennial generation etc).Obviously that classification is based on certain events experienced by every generation. As Somalis we might need to device our own based on our experiences. This is what I came up with so far (I will only start from the 1960s)

**Generation Independence (Facii Madax-banaanida): (early 40s and before)
This includes everyone who was a consenting adult during the independence eves of 1960s (26 june and 1st july). Those were mostly rural birth and upbringing rarely there was "Pure Reer-magaal". They all shared a heightened sense of Somalinimo exacerbated by the common goal of independence and birthing an independent Somalia. Sadly, this generation led the country to its demise being the most Qabilist most corrupt and most ignorant of all. They were the ones exclusively handling Somali politics all the way to the 90s.

**Generation Revolution (Facii Tawrada) (1950s- early 1970s)
No generation was more brain-washed than this generation, They were ubaxii iyo dhalintii kacaanka. growing in a secular somalia, being exposed to constant propaganda of Golihii Kacaanka. They were much fortunate than their predecessors by enjoying "limited" education and to experience the only functional government the Somali nation ever had. many of them were the fuel used to startle the civil war, although they were not the brain behind it.

**Generation lost hope (Facii rajo beelka) (Early 80s- early 90s)
This generation were the most affected by the civil war, Through famine, displacement, lack of education, loss of family members at young age (parents) and mass immigration out of the country. Fortunately this generation are the most hopeful when it comes to rebuilding Somalia, and amazingly to my experience the least corrupt (Somalinet not being a sample of reference) . Another phenomenon is that they are usually late for school, being in high school while being well into their mid-20s , but according to their documents all where born in 1990 if in Somalia and 1991 if in Somaliland.!!!

**Generation New-Somalias (Facii Soomaalida cusub) (mid-90s)
Those were born into different Somalia or Somalias, they are more realistic in believing that a united loving somalia cannot exist in the near future. hence their utmost believe in their regional administrations/countries, Somaliland, Puntland,Somali region of ethiopia......

Bal dhamaystira Jimcada ayaan u socdaaye....

"Facii rajo beelka" is such a depressing term for a spirited group with potential, no? :|

As in Hope was lost back at the time....The Somali inhabited peninsula being torn by War and Famine at the same time, one can only be a dreamer to figure out a way out back then.
