Personally I don't like when the niqaab is used to frame the discourse on Islam, be it for or against. Clearly it's favourite tool of Islamophobics, and the counter views coming from Muslim corners tend to establish wearing of niqaab as something wholly exclusive to Islam, and Muslim women. When in fact it's very much part of orthodox Jewish practice as well.
This is why Harpers comments is carefully measured to isolate the wearing of the face veil to Muslim practice, so he can inject "ant-women" "evil" rhetoric, less of soliciting inadvertent blowback. He does not want to suffer the same fate as the Parti Quebecios when they included the wearing of "other" religious symbols in a billed clearly designed to target Muslims. We all know what happened to Pauline Marois's PQ's. Harpers is sounding a lot like her these days, hopefully will suffer the same fate come federal election.
I know a lot of long time and very much loyal, card carrying PC voters, some Muslims, others Hindu's and conservative Asians who are VERY unhappy with the recent "Bush-like..u are with us or against us" spiel spewing from their party of allegiance.
Mr. Harper, keeping talking like this.. It serves a greater purpose exposing his bs for all Canadians to see and get him out of office.
