Those are some interesting trees! In the US, citrus is an annual crop, just one per year. I am amazed (!!!) he gets 2 and 2/5 crops. These are under irrigation or in an area that gets more than one Gu a year? Or do the trees just mature differently?

Here, it takes a minimum of three years to produce a small first crop. And that is from large seedlings.

I might plant liin around the edges, but gelay in Gu and semsem in Hagai will feed you a lot faster and won't rot in a couple of weeks if you can't get it to market.

Wouldnt sourghum do better than corn.
needs less water and fertiliser and resists pest better.

I'm not good at farming but generally speaking it takes for the fruits to repen between 6-8 months

If your planting it in the house it will take a year

Tropical climate r not the same as the US

However I googled it and I came across some froms who r saying 3 months, 4 months, 5 months, 6 months

The age of the tree plays big role too

The person who told me this is my third cousin, from kenya and he's in hiiraan for business so I'm sure about it

Sahal,
That link is on Meyer lemon, which is a different kettle of fish.

I'm not sure specifically which lime liin is. It's quite a family:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lime_%28fruit%29

The one we raise here in California and in the Philippines is calamondin, which is used very much like liin. The growth is very similar and the Philippines is tropical.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calamondin

There is only one crop a year, but it can be picked over a long season, and it may be that your friend just picks it every five months.

Gurey,

Sorghum probably would be better in the north, but corn gets enough rain in the south, provides a heavier crop, and does not have to be protected from the hordes of weaver finches that millet attracts. Actually, either will do as an inter-crop until the liin matures.

Those are not lemons. The only place in Somalia that does true lemons is Arabsiyo.

Grant, Corn is the reason Americans are so obese - corn syrup, corn bread, corn starch, corn oil etc. Processed highly saturated garbage

Sorgum is the food of my ancestors and Somalis should utilise that as well as oats.

LH,

Are you from the North? I saw lots of corn but very little sorghum in the South.

http://skipthepie.org/cereal-grains-and ... rn-yellow/

Actually, corn has only slightly more calories than Sorghum and many more vitamins and minerals. If you add digir or canbulo to corn, you have a complete protein. It was the basic food of the Aztec, Inca, Maya, etc., who did not get fat on it.

I like sorghum for laxoox, but for things like soor and mufo I Iike gelay. The Gosha cooks in Jilib did great things with it.

Sorghum is cultivated widely in SL particularly the Gabiley region because of their tolerance to the warmer climate.
Corn is also cultivated but not as much because it needs more water.

If Reservoirs were built to capture all that excess rain that forms into seasonal rivers, people could produce more, farm throughout the year instead of the rain season and diversify their crops.

Somalis can grow enough food to the supply the entire country and sell some to neighboring countries such as the middle east.
But they find importing things easier, this is a huge money drain.
