Would you clean toilets for $13/hr + benefits?
For those of you who don't know what "benefits" are, it's primarily health insurance, vested-matched retirement fund, paid time off and it's very important because most low-pay(and even many medium-pay) jobs in America offer zero to minimal benefits. Having a job with benefits means the difference between being able to go to a dentist to get a bothersome tooth pulled, or dying from a infection that set in because every dentist you go to asks for an exorbitant amount of lacag or dental insurance, which your job doesn't provide, nor does the government(thanks to beesha Republican). Yeah, it's that crucial.

You. Yes, you reading this.If you were unemployed, and you had mad bills to pay, and that monthly biil that you send every bil, and then, you were contacted about a Senior Janitor Analyst position where your duties would be to primarily clean musqulo(for the af-soomali challenged: suuli) and to analyze whether or not the floor and the walls are sufficiently cleaned of fecal matter iyo arrimaha la xariiro, maxaad samayn lahayd?
I'm asking this because while chilling with the homies, this new guy who grew up in the Khaleej and just came witha "risboosar", was telling us how he turned down a janitor job.
We got into it. I went HAM on him, or to be more accurate, HAM on his argument, which mainly revolved around on concepts of pride, dignity, and "sharaf" and that cleaning toilets was beneath "qof sharaf leh". He didn't back down, and dished right back at me. At a time of widespread economic hardship and little-to-non-existent social safety net, this prideful fool turned down a job where he would be making more than what 80% of you reading this make. Because "dee qof sharaf leh suuli ma dhaqo". The entitlement of it all: he's a penniless refugee with very little english or job skills, yet he sees himself above manual labor. So what does he do instead? Leech/mooch off of his qaraabo uu la dagan'yahay, and he's been doing that for the past 1.5 years and sees nothing wrong with it.
Once you factor in overtime pay(guaranteed, according to him), that $13/hr musqul-dhaqid shaqo would net him ~$2,500-$3,000 per month. And that's AFTER taxes & deductions. There are tons of people with PHds and Master degrees that make less than that. Yet this fool of a fool turned it down because "dee ina adeer, nin sharaf leh baan ahay".
So, I'm just curious, how many of you share his views:
Option A: You clean toilets for 8 hours a day. In return, you get a monthly income of approx. ~2.5k/3k- month and more importantly, benefits so that if you get sick, you don't have to go the ER and come out with a $100k medical bill, or let your teeth rot out because you can't afford a dentist.
Option B: You beg people. "Adeerow, magan. Eedow, bus wax aan ku raaco, Abtiow, boqol doolar"
In this particular scenario, there is no option C, so don't come up with alternative ways of making money.

No thank you. I would rather be paid 4 dollars an hour in an office than clean feces infected toilets. But thats just me. I am not putting anyone down...

But you can't live on 4 bucks an hour. So you are, in effect, choosing Option B: Begging, right?
b for boy, b for bencil, b for begging. Interesting.

This isn't just about cleaning toilets, it's about the condescending attitude that some(many?) Somalis have towards manual labor.
A construction worker who makes six figures(and there are plenty who do)............ is a xamaali to them.

Working hard for your money is important and way more sharaf than asking others to support you.
Idk why some Somali's have a dhaqan of lazynimo and sense of entitlement.

With that kind of pay and in that kind of condition i would agree to take up the job in a heartbeat. Your friend is insane.

If I have no alternative, I will do it instead of begging.
Also there are millions who do that with less money. Am Not better than them.
