Ali Roba, Governor of Mandera: 'Mandera will never be secure unless the Gedo region of ‪#‎Somalia‬ is taken over by KDF (Kenya Defense Force) and patrol and control.'

Mandera is not 'one hour' away from Gedo. Gedo is a region which directly borders NED region, there is no town of Gedo. That map might be the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

They aren't an army. They cannot match them gun to gun. They'll continue to spy and do surprise attacks because they're deadlier and need fewer men. BTW I don't think you're acquainted with Al Shabaab, they're difficult to snitch on because they have all abandoned their families and communities. They live in small cells the wilderness and people are afraid to even venture where they live because they are a ruthless, paranoid bunch.

Back to the topic alshabab aren't as strong as they used to be. They don't have the manpower neither weapons to fight the fufus at border. All they are capable of as now is hit and runs.

Where will Kenya find the resources for such a thing? The police in Nairobi of all places are supplementing their wages with bribery, they even reportedly looted the Westgate mall, a place they could not even dream of shopping and eating in (no-one but a tourist or rich business person can, coffee costs more than in the UK despite it being Kenyan coffee).

Kenyan police barely have a presence in NED, hence using a tank to get four men in the Garissa atrocity. What will they eat when they come to Gedo? Reer Gedo don't carry money for bribes and cannot afford them, and Somali Shilling is cumbersome for bribery or even theft. Where will they sleep? Most hotels are made from what the first two little piggies built their homes from. They will have to travel back and forth to Mandera, eventually their movements will become predictable and they will end up with more casualties.

If Kenya brings enough troops to really take hold of a region that vast (it will take 10,000 min), Al Shabaab will move from Gedo and send one or two suicide bombers when it suits them. Do they really think that they can control the Gedo borders when they can't even control the Somalia/Kenya border?

I say this is conflict that can only be solved by peaceful means. Kenyan cops and army have treated Somalis like crap and this governor here is probably ordering this entry into Somalia out of diplomacy i.e. to quell fears that Kenyan Somalis are in cahoots with Somalis from Somalia to form greater Somalia. It's his way of saying 'hey, fuck those guys. Go to town on them if you want, here I'll say it in public just don't blame us or retaliate on our people'. All of this despite the fact that it was Kenyan Somalis who committed these attacks. La yaab.

The Somali Govt is too dependent on Amisom.....we've known this for a while.
Furthermore, the IC are not serious about building up an effective national army, only funding tribal auxiliaries to Amisom.
The only solution is to build a truly national army outside of foreign control. Unfortunately we are a long way from even starting. :)
