I don't understand. Was Yemen a rich country back in 1991 ? If not, what made Yemen so attractive destination for skinnies ?

Puntlanders dump most IDPs who come to Puntland to Yemen.

Dude it's close, just like there are half a million refugees in Kenya and many in Ethiopia. Many don't manage to make it out of those countries. It's a hard life and many don't obviously possess the financial support to move to Western or better countries

Just like the thousand of IDP's in kenya and ethopia yemen is no different. Somali refugees fled to all the neighbouring countries.

Going to Yemen takes more effort and isn't historic Somali territory. So, it's a bit weird.

You can't compare Kenya and Ethiopia to Yemen. The latter has a high death risk unlike the other two countries.

no.it isn't.my grandad a reer baadiye man from the bush went to work in Yemen.somalis have had a historic presence there and it was certainly more stable than going to Ethiopia during the war.

Historic are you kidding. Somalis share alot of history with yemen. There's thousands of somalis of yemeni decent. Somalis of north/west/East and Djibouti have had trade and family ties with yemen and oman for hundreds of years. In the 1920's thousands fled the mad mullah and fled to Yemen and oman where they still live and have assimilated into arab society. Going to Yemen makes more sense than addis abba or nairobi historicly speaking.

Somalis mistakenly believe that there are all kinds of riches to be found in Yemen, whilst it's in reality not much better than Somalia. By the way those are for registered people, unofficial numbers of refugees are larger.
